Luck hates monks

Luck hates monks.

There is something about monks that luck/fate/god(s) hates. I've seen 3 monks in D&D3.X, and they just never got a break. Throughout their careers, all three of these monks had it hard.

The first monk had the best ability scores in the party (rolled up 4d6-1). He became a quivering mass of chaos after an encounter with a chaos beast. His comrades performed a coup de grace on him, out of pity.

The second monk had by far the best AC in the party. He was dropped from a fully healthy 20 hit points to -10 hit points with a single greataxe critical.

The third monk has the second best AC in the party, and the highest hit points. He is currently and amazingly still alive in my campaign. But he has been knocked to unconsciousness twice in 5 game sessions.

Monk is the only class I see that regularly gets bad luck. Am I seeing a fluke, here? Or does luck hate monks?

I have seen many monks have bad luck. The one that was the worst was a kickin' Thri-Kreen monk who was especially good at stunning fist. We were playing City of the Spider Queen. I have never seen a monk have such bad luck, needless to say he was actually begging to have his character killed off so he could make one more useful to the party.

I have a 27th level monk who does a boatload of damage when he hits... if he can hit. Last session I got in an average of ONE hit out of every six attacks. :(

That's happened in a couple of my games, as well.

On our last adventure, the only character to die was a monk who got eaten by an ooze.

Hmm....

Oh, so true. In our current campaign, I started out with a dwarven Monk named Terek. He died fighting an ooze so that my wife's new character could live. At least that is the way I like to put it ;)

My new monk, a warforged, is doing a bit better, but still gets it handed to him in the last two fights or so. Dice hate me...
