Just to add to the confusion... the armor bonus from mage armor does stack with the cover bonus from a tower shield. But the cover bonus from a tower sheild does not stack with the cover bonus from the shield spell. However, the cover bonus from the shield spell does stack with the armor bonus provided by a shield that isn't a tower shield.
