Mage of the Arcane Order is Wizards Only?

I'm looking for opinions on what it takes to become a guildmage (aside from practice, practice, practice...).

One of the prereqs for Mage of the Arcane Order (T&B, pg. 60) is "Ability to prepare and cast arcane spells of 2nd level or higher."

1) Does this mean that a 6th level wizard qualifies but a 6th level sorceror does not?

2) If so, could a sorceror take the Arcane Preparation feat (T&B pg.38) in order to qualify?

And while I'm here, a bonus question:

3) If a sorceror does manage to fool those stuffy old book mages and get into the guild, does the New Spell PrC ability (gotten at levels 5 and 8) do anything at all for him? (I'm thinking not.)

Thanks for the input!

Yes, you can qaulify for the prestige class if you take Arcane Preperation. Im not sure about the new spell thing though, you will have to work something out with your DM on that one.

A sorcerer cannot benefit from the New Spell class ability. But that doesn't change the fact that - apart from the heavy feat cost (Arcane Preparation and Cooperative Spell kinda suck) - MotAO is a fantastic class for a Sorcerer.

Just make sure you plan your spell selections around the fact that you'll have access to the Spell Pool. Don't take spells like Bull's Strength as Sorcerer spells in 3.0. Since you normally cast them in the morning with no great hurry, the time it takes to call them from the Pool is no big deal. A lot of the utility spells a Sorcerer never takes - Knock, Comprehend Languages - will become available. You can afford to go for Glitterdust and Web without thinking "Gee, but Rope Trick could be handy too..."
