I like the simplicity and the ease in play. I do think some spells need some modfieres (like the shocking grasp advantage vs metal armor)
If they're going to have 6 different saving throws based on ability scores, then they could just as readily have 6 different defenses based on ability scores. They should be just 10+ability mod.
