Making an exotic halbred

Well,

That would depend on the type of flour and the spices used. :)

An exotic Halberd on the other hand would depend on what you're trying to do. Why is the Halberd exotic? What makes it different than the normal one?

Nothing that specific. Weapons follow a fairly clear cut formalue.......if you look at the exotic version of a weapon chances are its exotic because :

-Its damage is one step higher
-Its crit range is 1 larger
-It has a special ability, like ability to trip

Im fairly sure an exotic halberd would be 2d6.

Another way of handling it, if you want to go in a different direction:

With an exotic weapon proficiency, the long halberd can be wielded either as a normal halberd or as a halberd with 10' reach, but doing 1d8 damage.

- Stuart[/QUOTE]Awful ungenerous unless you are trying to balance out the weapon’s synergy with enlarge person. 1d10 is just an awful die until you leave medium size behind. Once that happens you begin to reap the rewards of wotc being unwilling to include a “1d6 & 1d8” weapon damage step between 2d6 and 2d8.

I think a Long Halberd [+ reach] and a hefty halberd [Medium damage = 2d6] would be ok weapons.

As it happens, these is something odd in the weapon design set up. While wotc made a bastard [1d10 x3 crit, 1 hand exotic-2 handed martial] hammer called the maul, there is no "great hammer" [2d6 or 1d12 x3 crit 2-handed martial]. The titan has a special ability to obtain his version of that weapon, but for a PC to get a full sized 2 handed hammer, they have to grab a large warhammer and suck up a -2 to hit for it being a large creature's one handed weapon.

To complicate things the MM4 has introduced an exotic Medium 2-hand 2d6 x4 crit weapon [erroneously listed with a 19-20 crit in addition to the x4, I say erroneous because the weapon in the monster listing does not have the extended crit. Wotc promised us NO extended and multiplied crit weapons IIRC.]

2d6 dmg or 19-20 crit or +s to Disarm (or Trip) or perhaps reach 10ft.

Awful ungenerous unless you are trying to balance out the weapon’s synergy with enlarge person.

I was thinking more along the lines of being able to switch between using it as a d10 weapon with 5' reach and a d8 weapon with 10' reach - which seems remarkably useful (and maybe too good), particularly with the ability to trip and do piercing or slashing.

Complete Warrior has the heavy poleaxe; 2d6, 20/x3, S or P, reach, set vs. charge. Pretty much exactly what you're looking for; the only thing missing is the tripping ability.
