Making Cool Maps

While it does not seem to bad the terrian... wait there is not terrian. L is the terian symbol for a marsh, no graphics. So while good for creating castles it seems not so good for overland maps. Unless I am missing something?

Right I saw those. But I was hoping for a little more than an "N" for a spiked bush or a "P" for a tree without foilage.
Er...I've got a heap of symbols available and can see none of the letters you're describing. Maybe you've got an old version?

Ahh... Hexmapper! Just point and click.

You can make custom tiles for it too. It's really simple to do. I made several and posted them to a thread I started awhile back.

Here is a little map I made with Hexmapper before I started making custom tiles.

That's an elegant little hex mapper. It seems to be using the oD&D Gazetteer map symbols too, which I've always had a soft spot for. At first blush it seems to be limited to those symbols though, I might try and add to the hexlist later on (they're just bitmaps) and see if it picks them up...

EDIT: Posted this before seeing Darraketh's post - you can add symbols - cool!

Well I downloaded it today. Version 1.19. AutoRealm. Is this the wrong program?
I think I know what's going on. I'm running 1.15, and I recall Autorealm being contacted by the Campaign Cartographer folks to remove the symbols that they "borrowed" from CC that were put in Autorealm. 1.15 probably was before they had to remove them...

Still good for cities and dungeons, though, or if you define terrain type through colour fills like I do. Still, I think I'm sold on your hex mapper for wilderness - I like the style of play in wilderness that hex mapping promotes...

Hexmapper won't run for me. It says its missing a dll. Any suggestions on where I can get it? The site had a link for a VB runtime setup, but it also needs that dll.

Thanks

I have a question about Autorealm.

I downloaded it, and I'll attempt to scroll using those little scoll thingies on the bottom and right of the map, but the scroller will lock into the middle of the scroll bar and start blinking light gray/dark gray, and then I can't move it.

Is it just buggy, or is it trying to communicate?
