Making Guardinals: A community effort.

Level adjustments we figure out last, but so far it looks like at least a +5 if not a +7.

As for skill bonuses, a bonus to listen checks seems logical to me, what do the rest of you think?

Giving it +3 natural armor shortly.

Here are the synergy bonus to skills (an asterisk denote a conditional modifier, which will have to be put in the "Skill" section, otherwise, add the bonus directly to the score):
Appraise* +2 to appraise alchemical items
Diplomacy +2
Intimidate +2
Sleight of Hand +2
Disguise* +2 to play someone's role
Use Magic Device* +4 to use scrolls
Spellcraft +2
Survival* +2 while on the planes

And, lastly, a bonus that isn't a synergy bonus: having a base speed of 40 gives the Vulpinal a +2 bonus to Jump checks.

OK. Now comes the spell-like abilities. Here's what I propose:
At will: arcane mark, read magic; 3/day: detect magic, fox's cunning (on others only), magic missile; 1/day: rope trick, clairaudience/clairvoyance. Caster level equal to the Vulpinal's HD + wizard level.

Adding the synergy bonuses shortly, anyone else have suggestions or comments on the spell-like abilities? If no objects or suggestions have been made by tomorrow, I'll go with Gez's suggestions.

OK, so no one objects or suggests anything?

Then . . .

Spell-like abilties: At will -- arcane mark, read magic; 3/day -- detect magic, fox's cunning (on others only), magic missile; 1/day -- rope trick, clairaudience/clairvoyance. The Vulpinal's caster level is the same as for his wizard spells (HD+Wizard class levels).

The reason I restricted it to be on others only is because they are foxes, they already have a fox's cunning! :) But they can impart it on others with their touch.

(Of course, they could still cast the spell on themselves, if they know it, and they still could benefit from a fox's cunning spell-like ability cast by another Vulpinal, etc. The same as two efreet can "exchange" wishes. Minor flavor point.)

I see your point. How does the rest of you feel about this?

Personally, I feel that the spell's names don't actually indicate exactly what they bestow. I wouldn't deny a creature with claw attacks the use of magic fang, simply because it isn't called "magic claw".

I'd just hate to see an outsider wizard denied the ability to increase its Intelligence via magic simply because the spell has its namesake animal in the title. Just my 2 cents.

Also a good point, anyone else care to offer their two cents? if not I'll go with my gut feeling on that particular spell.
