Had to check it out, Denzel is a worthy actor and the trailer caught my attention.

Did you knwo that the 1 kidnapping every hour is a true fact? *jaw drops*

I liked the movie and was compelled by Denzel's character, it was a harsh look at revenge, I liked that and would do the same if something happened to my kids.

Your thoughts?

I avoided this for a long while, and on my flight back from London last week...they had it. So I watched it (after Troy and Kill Bill v2 of course :)). WOW, I was really surprised. It was very very good, and really it became a "What's he going to do next?" type of movie as I watched Denzel's character getting his revenge. A bit disturbing at points, but for very good reasons.

EDIT: Oh...and Arrr!! ;)

I watched Man on Fire and The Punisher back to back. I really wished The Punisher was more like Man on Fire. I really enjoyed the ruthlessness with which Crecy carried out his mission to exterminate those who were in any way involved in the kidnapping and killing of the girl Pita. This is the kind of "no holds barred" ruthlessness I was hoping to see in The Punisher but didn't.

I really enjoyed the film. The ending was kind of sappy and cliche, but overall the film presented a scenario most parents would want to see happen in the same situation. I didn't find the movie totally believable. I felt the kidnappers could have a mounted a better defense against Denzel. The whole "A bullet always tells the truth" line was just stupid. It wasn't a cool, memorable line. It was hokey. I blame the writer for that.

I really liked the extremes Crecy went to to carry out vengeance. When he cut that guys fingers off, you knew he was serious. None of this popsicle stick crap. He was dead serious about extracting the information needed.

Overall, an entertaining movie with top notch acting and decent pacing. I liked it.

My ending:

Crecy puts a C-4 "butt bomb" TM in himself and as they drive away you hear the beep beep, the BBEG says "What is that?" and Crecy smiles and the whole car goes *boom*.

I was expecting that, too. However, I think I know why he didn't do that.

He was buying Pita's life with his own. If he betrayed the deal like that, then Pita and her mom no longer have that protection, and the goons in the other car can double back and kill them.

Now, having Christopher Walken's character nearby for backup (so he can usher Pita and mom away) would make that a viable option.

It was a bit of a cop-out that the child turned up alive .. I mean it's a movie about a man going on revenge, and it turns out to be for nothing (well he did get the child back..).

I thought it was cheap.

I thought about that, was even expecting it, but then there was no way to know if the people he wanted to kill would even be in the car or if it was just a bunch of worthless mooks. They might have even taken the girl back and put her in the car with him. Too many unknown factors for a man of his background to take the chance.

It was a surprisingly good movie. A friend of mine and I went to see it when there was really just nothing else we were interested in.

Never going to Mexico.
