Marked by Destiny, Marked by Tragedy (Erekose13 Judging)

[SBLOCK=GM](OOC: How did she not catch up to them on the way there? Friend has an adamantine body, I believe you said? That slows him down to 20 move, possibly 15 if he was encumbered by the body)[/SBLOCK]

[sblock=OOC] I figured it would take you a few minutes to loot the bodies methodically and get the prisoners securely bound. Not to mention Friend knows exactly where he's going while you only have a direction and distance. I suppose if Friend was moving at a slow walk and Alysina was sprinting she could catch them before they reached the hospital, it won't particulaly effect the storyline either way so if you really want I can go back and redo the encounter.[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=GM](OOC: Wow, it was that close that the hospital was four or five minutes of regular movement from the burning building? That's very close, like a quarter-mile or less from personal experience. If that's the case, then I could see him being ahead, I guess)

"I am here with Robillan d'Sivis. He's a gnome being carried here by his Warforged, Friend. Terrible injuries and can't possibly have arrived but a minute ago. May I please?" Alysina says, very politely.

(OOC: I guess she's Unfriendly and needs to be moved to Indifferent? With a +13 and a target DC of 15, that shouldn't be too hard)[/SBLOCK]

"let's make our way to the Randy Bugbear. We'll hire ourselves out a cab, make pretend like our hostages are merely drunk - and we're drunk ourselves, and don't want to end the night on account of a few pansies who can't hold their liqour - and wait out in front of the Bugbear. I'll slip in, talk to Flynn, and we can sneak our friends in through the back - I'm sure he'll let us use his storage room. Might cost us a few gold, though... I'm sure the box will make up for it, eventually. Hell, maybe Flynn can take a look at it...?"

Brelach scowls and looks up at the sky. "I hate the rain. I really do. Let's get moving. Like, now."

OOC: Check the sblock for everyone else, Wik :) (We're already there)

"We'll stick with these fellows a while, just go on in and talk to Flynn about that room. Maybe about the armors and weapons, too, might be we could trade them for the favors."

Arvin nods, "We got 'em for now."

OOC: Well Friend said it was 500 to 600 meters away so yeah, just under half a mile. A little overly convenient perhaps, but then given its population size Sharn's docks aren't likely to be more than a few miles long anyway. Sharn's actually quite a small city by modern standards, particularly given its vertical nature.

“Ah, so you’re one of the friends that hulking metal monstrosity of his said would be turning up.” The nurse lets out a long sigh and seems to deflate visibly, her former indignant demeanour replaced by weary resignation. “Fine, fine… I don’t have the energy to argue. I put him in his usual room, up the main stairs, take the first turn right and three doors on the left. Lady Ageta’ll be seeing to him right now provided she can drag herself out of bed, so mind your manners…” She turns to go back to her work, then stops briefly and turns back to Alysina “And could you please try and get Robillan to take care of himself? It’s not like we don’t mind the custom, Host knows his mother’s money is the only thing keeping this place open, but some of those wounds he keeps getting… sooner or later that servant of his is going to get here too late and then we’re all up Shargon’s Teeth without a paddle.”

Assuming you don’t wish to engage the nurse in further conversation, you make it up to Robillan’s room without incident. It’s a small room on the top floor with a single bed, glass windows and its own fireplace. Not luxury by any means but considerably better furnished than the public ward. Friend stands by the entrance, and waves at you quietly as you come in. Robillan himself is laid out on the bed, a dragonmarked halfling woman tending to his wounds. He is moaning softly, conscious and somewhat healed but still clearly injured.

[sblock=Weapon]The young Marshal narrows his eyes, his voice taking on an edge of menace, “Obviously. Tell me, do you think I am stupid Warforged?” He raps briefly on the badge affixed to his tunic. “I trust you know what this badge represents? Should I deem you to be obstructing the pursuit of justice I could quite easily arrange to have you taken in and melted down for scrap. I have numerous witnesses telling me that a warforged and several other suspects were involved in a violent outburst right here within minutes of the explosion that started this fire. You look like a warforged to me, urgo you are a suspect in this case. Now answer me: What are you doing here and what’s your role in all this?”

ooc: He's bluffing you here. A DC 15 Sense Motive will reveal that he's lying to you about his legal authority. A knowledge (Nobility) check would give you this too but in Weapon's case it's moot.[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=GM]*Alys notes the nurse's tension and distraught nature, and realises that the poor thing is being overworked. Rather than disturb her for too long, Alys engages in light friendly small talk for a while (including getting a name) to try to help the nurse lighten up a bit without distracting too much or too long from her work. Alys always prefers to leave wherever she goes with a friend if she can--She'll bid a friendly farewell to the tune of:*

"I salute your vigilance <insert name of nurse here>. Nurses are some of the most underappreciated people at a hospice, and I know you aren't thanked enough for the important and lifesaving aid you provide. So on behalf of myself, Robillan, and all the others who have come through these doors and let their voices stay silent, I thank you for the succour you provide."

*She bows slightly and heads over to check on the gnome.*

"Mr. Robillan d'Sivis?" she greets him, moving over to check on his wounds herself, laying a cold compress on an injury or performing some other trivial task to ease the pain a bit if she can, "My name is Alysina Verani, an Inquisitive in training, and I am at your service. I took care of those assassins after you. Can you tell me something of what is going on?"[/SBLOCK]

[sblock=DM][Sense Motive (even w/ an AP): 3. As usually, he's oblivious.]

Weapon shrugged. Perhaps he could have him slagged. It would have to be quite hot to melt the adamantine---most likely his fibrous bundles would burn before then. He mentally added it to his surprisingly growing list of ways to perish. Two new entries in one day.

Nonplussed---the warforged would probably show little emotion even when being melted---Weapon responded. "Ergo, not urgo, I believe the term is Sentinel. That is what I was taught, anyway. And, as I stated, I am watching the premises here. As for my previous involvement in the incident you mention, I was asked to guard this scene against intrusion. I was not involved in the cause of the explosion---I was asked by a representative of House d'Sivis who was affected by the events to assist in any investigation and keep those that would disturb such investigation away. if you are taking up said investigation, then I am here to assist."

It was not strictly a lie, more an omission of truth. He's squad leader Mallan had told him sometimes such distinctions were necessary.

[If you want a Bluff check, it'll be great!: 5 I will point out that he is stating the facts for the most part.]

[sblock=Alysina]Robillan’s eyes open upon hearing Alysina’s greeting. He glances briefly towards Friend.

“Is she one of the-“

“Yes master Robillan!” Friend shouts, it seems volume control is beyond him “This young lady is one of the kind-hearted individuals who interevened to prevent your unsolicited assassination, no doubt at the hands of the soulless minions of orthodoxy who have blighted your path since your childhood days!”

The young halfling attending Robillan winces at the noise, but doesn’t say anything. The gnome himself however is ecstatic

“Splendid!”

The gnome rises, wincing in pain as he drags himself up to a sitting position and brushing the halfling away. She looks like she’s about to protest, but drops the point, she skulks off grumbling and wishing terrible doom upon idiot gnomes and ‘defective’ warforged.

“Just the person I was looking for! You may not know it yet, but your actions tonight may very well have saved this entire city, nay the whole world, from the most evil and diabolical villains ever to plague man and gnome! Indeed were it not for the fact that I am now beggared, penniless and bereft of the discovery that was to ensure my return to the good graces of house Sivis and strike a final blow against the faceless legions of mediocrity that have been conspiring against me since my birth, I would be showering you with untold of rewards even as we speak.”[/sblock]

[sblock=Weapon]The Marshal glares at Weapon as the warforged corrects his pronunciation and for a moment there is murder in his eyes. Then it vanishes as quickly as it appeared, replaced once more with slightly conceited formality. He turns to the watchman beside him.

“Is this thing telling us the truth?”

“Uh… yes captain, the Sivis loo- I mean, the dragonmarked noble who lives here does have a warforged bodyguard. A pretty thick one too.”

“Thank you sergeant, and I suggest you retain the proper level of respect for your marked superiors if you want a favourable report for the next wage review” He turns back to Weapon. “Okay warforged, your story checks out, I have no reason to arrest you… yet. As long as you continue to do exactly as I say you will remain free, as much as that means anything to you people. This house is a crime scene and, as the only officer in this district capable of searching this house while it’s still burning, the duty to salvage what little evidence remains falls to me. However given that from the look of it I won’t have much time before this house collapses completely, I’m going to need a guide to explain the layout of the building and assist me in gathering evidence. Hence you will be leading the way in there, protected by the power of my dragonmark. Throughout our search I will be asking you questions; you are to address is me captain Sebastian or failing that, a simple ‘sir’ will siffice. Do I make myself clear?”[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=GM]'The hyperbole police are here...They're looking for a gnome with...'

"I see. Well if the mystery is well and completely solved, then that is one thing. But I do not think it is but more than the opening act. Why did every Dragonmarked individual remotely near here see visions of that scene that drew them there? Surely there must be some explanation? I gather from context that it involves some sort of dangerous substance you were studying?"
