Martial characters and rituals

Personally I hope that rituals are restricted by power source. It is nice (IMHO) from the flavor point of view and adds mechanical meaning to power sources.

Personally I could see a Fighter that has access to Locate Creature as a ritual, calling it "I'm gonna git ya sucka!"

Bruenor made Wulfgor's hammer, so I don't see any problem with martial characters getting rituals. It would actually fit certain settings more than previous renditions of D&D.

Doesn't Conan pray to Crom in Conan the Barbarian for victory in battle?

I imagine stuff like that.

Well, praying to a god quickly is something else than performing a magical ritual to revive a (nearly) dead one, as the Wizard did to Conan, telling Valeria that there would be a price to pay.

I'm hoping there's separate Ritual lists, with Arcane and Divine Rituals. It'd be cool to get Divine Rituals for a Paladin character, for instance. Having access to Arcane Rituals would just be weird, though.

I think there probably will be some divide. If not blatant then perhaps if skills are involved. With some Rituals using Arcana and some Religion. Then when PHB2 comes out we can have Primal Rituals based off using Nature skill.

I agree. I also hope that martial characters will be unable to use rituals. The idea of fighters casting scry and rogues casting resurrection is just too weird for me.

I could get behind that. It's the utility magic that I don't think should be available to anyone, things like phantom steed, teleport, scrying, summoning, magic circles of protection, etc.
