D&D 5E Martials v Casters...I still don't *get* it.

Fair enough. I haven’t seen that play style in decades. I doubt many want to return to it.
But that's the problem.

If you made D&D start at Kinda Realism then expand to Fantasy Crazy, most of the troubles go away.

The problem is DMs are not supposed to be assumed as experts of 20+ specialties and WOTC won't make the rules for some reason.

This thread has turned into a pity-fest. I’m out.

Haters gonna hate.

More like: "I've run out of non-fallacious arguments so I shall leave."

If the question is "why do people argue LFQW is still a thing?" and the response is "fighters don't feel like they have a varied list of options compared to casters, either in or out of combat" a response that is essentially "well, lots of people play champions so they must be fine" is a rather poorly sketched out position.

Again. I haven’t seen this anywhere as a problem the last 30 years. So it if you want and are how well your tables loves you. If it works great. Your table will thank you and think u r the greatest most fun DM in the world.

For a system that arose from tabletop wargaming and that still has a rather hard focus on combat, should not some of the things a player would like their character to do be better simulated in the rules?

A pure narrative focus TTRPG would be better handled in some other system (of which there are many).

Those who can play D&D for years and finds none of the rules out the box weird, unfulfilling, annoying, or offputing are the Blessed

This whole conversation and discussion is about some fans of martial classes finding some of the base rules weird, unfulfilling, annoying, or offputing.

I’m the opposite i can’t understand how someone can’t see all the options available to materials to materials these days. Especially with all the expanded books. A charismatic fighter with expertise persuasion is just one example. Not counting all the maneuvers available these days. I just don’t get it.

Because it was based on a wargame.

Wargames in my experience have boring characters with few options because there are 12-300 of them on the table.

If D&D grew from wrestling clubs or from fighting video games, martial characters would have more options than spellcasters.
