Mary Jane Action figure draws ire of women comic fans

Those are too weird for me. Spider-Man in his thong?

If they're going to make a statue of them, why don't they do one where they both were lying (almost vertically) on Spidey's web, like in the trailer or the end of Spider-Man 2? Or go back to the first movie where Parker caught MJ and her food tray? Or their first kiss as Spidey?

Sigh. Yet another non-issue for people to get excited about.

I'm in agreement with you there. I think the model's bigger crime is just not being as good as the illustration they based it on. The legs are too long, the waist too small, and the breasts too large. And yeah, sort of skanky. But in the end this is really nothing new in the comic book industry. Getting up in arms about it when there's so much worse material...feels like a very limited perspective and simple scapegoating. I don't wish it hadn't been done, only that it had been done better.

As far as it looking like Kirsten Dunst, nope. It looks like the MJ from the comics, who looks relatively nothing like her.

Read the blurb, Spider-Man in his thong isn't an actual comiquette, it's designed to show how ludicrous the Mary Jane one is.

Interestingly, this isn't any more offensive to me than the Spiderman daily comic strip in newspapers that Stan Lee has (supposedly) been writing for decades. It's execrable. MJ's job is to lounge around in lingerie crying and worrying about Petey, while Spiderman goes out and is proactive.

Gah! I get annoyed just thinking about it. This model is a step up, even; at least she's wearing actual clothes.

All I know is that I didn't know about it before they made a stink about it and now that I've seen it, I think I want it.

so thanks for the link!

I really don't understand this notion that just because she's doing his laundry, she's being subservient. Maybe she just likes doing laundry? Or is just being nice to Peter? Who knows. I'll admit that the statue itself is in bad taste, but I can't see why that fact is the reason that ticks so many people off.

A bit tacky, and definitely cheesecake.
Honestly, I'm surprised this got more of a reaction then the Zombie Spiderman+Mary jane statue considering violence toward women in comics is a big issue.

I'm a guy so obviously I like it, and contrary to many there are still a lot of traditional homes where women "gasp" do housework. Plus this is not too much off the whole wife maid fantasy clothing a lot of couples participate in.

It kills me how everyone acts so conservative when Lovers Lane and PRicilla's don't stay in business by themselves.
