I really don't understand this notion that just because she's doing his laundry, she's being subservient. Maybe she just likes doing laundry? Or is just being nice to Peter? Who knows. I'll admit that the statue itself is in bad taste, but I can't see why that fact is the reason that ticks so many people off.

I find it amusing that the pearls are always mentioned myself. She should have been in heels and hot-shorts... she IS a model, isn't she? :-p

I'm a guy so obviously I like it, and contrary to many there are still a lot of traditional homes where women "gasp" do housework. Plus this is not too much off the whole wife maid fantasy clothing a lot of couples participate in.

It kills me how everyone acts so conservative when Lovers Lane and PRicilla's don't stay in business by themselves.

I'm a guy, and I don't like it. You need to reevaluate your "obviously".

It is entirely possible to be offended by sexist objectification without being prudish. Your conflation of the two speaks volumes.

(And P-Kitty: Agree on the daily strip. Gah.)

For myself, it's easy to think something looks stupid without getting into whether it's sexist or not. I wouldn't buy it because it just looks blah.

Ok, most guys like looking at scantly clad women, whether they admit it to themselves or not.

And again, conflating prudishness with a disaffection for overt objectification.

There's a difference between sexy and sexist.

As a guy I will readily admit I enjoy looking at scantily clad women, but a scantily clad statue of a woman from a comic book does absolutely nothing for me, and I don't like it. Seems like a waste. They could have done something much better as a tribute to the "success of the Mary Jane character," unless they really intended to mock, rather than celebrate, the character.

actually women do too...at least according to one study where women's bodies responded to porn scenes even when they said they didn't.

Yeha but I"m sure that's a subject not for enworld ;).

My point is that these things are rarely ever as horrible as people want to make them out to be. These types of threads fill up with hypocritical protests.

My guess is that the moment Kirsten Dunst sees that one - she'll be on the phone to her lawyer threatening a steaming bowl of litigation against Sony Pictures and Marvel in a heartbeat.
Sure, and then her lawyers will explain that portraying a character in a movie doesn't actually bestow upon the actor any ownership of that character. Marvel can demean Mary Jane as they see fit.
