Masterwork bonus type

I don't usually butt-into other peoples' arguments, and I won't here either except for this single post.

I've been reading this board religiously for the last year or so. I've never seen Caliban say he was infallible. I rarely even see him state as much as he has here (that he knows the rules very well and seldom makes a mistake.)

I have seen a growing trent for people to treat Caliban akin to how they treat the Sage. I think it started after several posters started making him out to be "better than the Sage" and calling him in posts to "resolve the issue." People now occasionally get some kind of thrill pointing out one of his mistakes, like it's a notch in their belt.

I don't think saying the equivalent of "haha, I like pointing out when you're wrong" can be justified by "get a thicker skin." The guy doesn't appreciate being singled-out and having people make a big deal about his mistakes. He'd like to be given the same courtesy everyone else is given when they get a rule wrong. Namely, "no problem, glad to help out, let's move on."

I don't think anyone in this thread was being mean-spirited or un-friendly in any way. Sometimes, one nice guy's joke simply won't be funny to a different nice guy. But Caliban didn't like what happened, and he has a right to that feeling. Rather than belittling it by saying, "I didn't do anything wrong, don't take things so seriously!" why don't we just say, "sorry, didn't mean to say the wrong thing, I'll try not to single you out so much in the future."

Anyway, those are my thoughts on the matter. Now, I'll return to my usual policy and butt-out. :)

You know, I did my little comment all in fun, but now I have to step in to correct the record. Caliban NEVER said he was infallible, nor did I say he said that. I wrote:

"all but said you were infallible on the base rules ."

The distiction is rather large.

Many times he has said how well he knows the rules. That's what I was refering to - he never made an actual claim of infallibility, nor did I say he did. Anything else is misrepresentation.

Sorry, I couldn't let that one go becuase I was being misrepresented.

By he way, I think Caliban is a great resource on the core rules. He does know them very, very well, which is what makes it amusing to spot an error. Often I look for his posts to see what the are are in a particualr case. He and I disagree on some of the more difficult and less clear rules, but on the clear ones he's rarely wrong. When one is rarely wrong and that is made obvious to others, then one risks providing amusement for others when one is wrong. I ought to know - it happens to me. But I've learned to have a sense of humor about it, and roll with the punches, as it were.

Anyway - Caliban, I apologize. I did not mean to offend you.

So, what was the answer? The MW bonus stacks with Luck and everything else, correct? Just not an enhancement bonus. Just making sure.

The masterwork bonus stacks with everything EXCEPT enhancement bonuses on the same weapon.

Thus, a masterwork sword is +1 to attack.

A +1 sword is +1 to attack and damage (the +1 attack bonus from masterwork and the +1 enhancement don't stack - and, as a reminder, all magic weapons are masterwork).

Clear?
