Curious. There is much criticism of the rave scene. Ever been to one?
Nope. I understand there is generous drug usage and general chaos. :p

I didn't like that scene, but only because of its length. And to call it a rave is about as close as people can, even never being to one. It was very dance club-esque and that's all I can compare it to on a personal level.

I enjoyed it the first time, and it holds up well on a second viewing. My wife (attending for her first time during my second viewing) thought the rave/sex scene was pretty hot. She did not, however, catch some of the important plot points (Agent Smith entering the real world was the chief one) and so she was quite confused at the end. But she still enjoyed it. She thinks Trinity is cool. :)

Yeah, a lot of people I've talked with seem to have completely
missed that plot point, the Agent-Smith-brainjacks-Bane-and-
enters-the-real-world thing.

Reloaded was a lot of painfully necessary, but not terribly exciting exposition joined by terribly exciting, but not painfully necessary action sequences. I liked it, realizing that Reloaded was a setup for Revolutions.

The Matrix #1 had to be a stand-alone film. I'm speculating that the Wachowski Bros. (Mario and Luigi, right?) were not at the point where they could decide that Reloaded and Revolutions would be made. In other words, the audience need closure at the end of #1, instead of this "To Be Concluded" crap.

Incidently, Warner Bros. had a survey team there at the theater, asking what our favorite character was (Agent Smith), our favorite scenes (the Marolvingian at the restaurant, the Agent Smith mob, and Trinity's rescue), and if we planned to see T3: Rise of the Machines (Not really). How would y'all have answered those? Oh wait: "You already have. Now you just have to figure out why..."

Favorite Character: You know, I don't think we really have a whole lot of reason to particularly like or dislike ANY of the characters. I'll pick the stoic Neo, because he's got the best moves, although I really wish Seraph had a bigger part in the movie.

Favorite scenes: Neo vs the Smith army, when Seraph tells Neo that you do not know someone until you've fought them, Morpheus slicing up the car with his katana, Neo grabbing Morpheus and the Keymaker in mid-air and flying away from the explosing trucks

Planning to see T3: Eventually, but I will likely wait until it comes out on video unless it gets really good reviews.

Re

I just watched Matrix-Reloaded today. I enjoyed the movie, but not as much as the first due to familiarity. The first one was fresh, the second one seemed contrived at many points.

Good points:

1. Special effects are unbelievable.

2. Fight choreography had to be the best I have ever seen.

3. Jada Pinkett, I think she is lovely. Enjoyed her character, hope they have more of her in the 3rd one.

4. The twins: Awsome powers and very cool looking.

5. Interesting twists in the story. Leaves you guessing, though I feel have an idea of where it is going.

Bad points:

1. Alot of the dialogue is spoken in a manner that does not blend well with the story. It is almost, actually it is exactly, like the characters are just showing up to listen to some omniscent figure tell them what they do not know in condescending, pseudo-mystical manner. Not particularly entertaining delivery of dialogue.

2. The Twins were underutilized. I would have liked to see more of them.

3. Not enough development of the relationship between Morpheus and Niobe.

4. Persephone wanting a kiss for location of keymaster was just stupid, IMO. Just didn't seem to fit the story at all.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. I will definitely be seeing Matrix 3. This is not a series of movies that I would watch over and over again in the same way as Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. The delivery of the story is much too dry for my tastes, some of it due to dry acting by Keanu and some due to poor writing.

My predictions for the Matrix 3:

1. Neo will sacrifice himself to save the Matrix and humanity.

2. We will find out the machines and humans live in a symbiosis that preserves both.

3. We will find out Agent Smith is a rogue program out to destroy humanity. He will be made into a devil figure.

Or maybe they'll have a couple of kids sitting on a couch laughing after Neo defeats the machine because they've won the great video game they were playing. That's when we start hearing stories about assassination attempts made against the Wachowski brothers for ending the films this way...)

although I really wish Seraph had a bigger part in the movie.

I played through "Enter the Matrix" the new videogame made to follow the story. As a videogame, it will not be well remembered, as the camera is irritating, controls aren't tight enough, and the awkward level goals and loading times can be irritating.

Nevertheless, I beat it in about 9 hours (counting doing a few missions over and over) so it makes for just about the best rental game ever. You find out a lot more about Niobe, Ghost (her second in command), Sparks (their operator), and the Logos (their ship). I am playing through as Ghost now, which I anticipate will only take about 7 hours.

The game directly ties in to the movie, and features cut-scenes of movie quality (I believe over an hour in total). The gameplay's redeeming feature is the "bullet-time" focus you can go to (all though this has been done in games like Max Payne, in ETM you see the bullet trails and can perform some really "off-the-wall" moves, not just slow down time.) and the hacking mini-game is fun (esp if you worked a lot in DOS).

It makes a great companion for the film, as seeing the same story through another character's eyes is always fun. You even get to see some of the better action scenes (albeit snipped) in dvd format in the game.

The end of the game also has a Revolutions trailer.
