Max skill points question

OK, I'm designing some NPCs for a d20 game and began wondering....

What's the max skill points for a skill which starts off as cross-class, but then becomes a class skill?

An example:

My wizard maxes out his cross-class skill, Forgery. At 3rd level, his max ranks in that skill is 3. For fourth level, he takes Rogue. What is the max rank he is allowed in Forgery now?

Is it 4? (3 from wizard plus 1 for 4th level (Rog1))
Is it 7? (3 from 3rd lvl wizard (cross-class), plus 4 from 1st lvl rogue (class skill))
Is it something else? How do you compute it?

TIA.

Max ranks are based on the ABSOLUTE character level. So, going from Wiz 3 (a 3rd level character) and adding Rog 1 (to a 4th level character), means the max ranks for class skills is 7. Whether a skill is class or cross class is determined by the character class you are adding/advancing. So, since you are adding a level of rogue, forger is then a class skill, so the max ranks are 7, and he can buy ranks at a 1:1 ratio.

Always remember:

1) Max ranks are determined by CHARACTER LEVEL, and is not specific to each class he picks up
2) What ever class you are adding/advancing is used for determining what is a class skill and what is cross classed.

Hope that helps!:D
