max strength bonus for composite bows

I like the PCs to use melee weapons. And meleers have a hard enough time in 3e as it is. In movies the high level PCs are shooting low-levellers (Hawk the Slayer) or the high level villain is using an Arrow of Slaying (Conan the Barbarian). :)

There are special Conan Slaying Arrows ;)?

...

Sorry about that. I'll leave now :uhoh:.

Oh good, lets make shortbows even more of a bad choice than they are now... So a medium creature with a composite long bow could have +6 (+4 for medium, 50% extra for rare materials) and a shortbow could only have +3 (+2 for small, 50% extra). Ewwww.

Huh, are you comparing a Medium (made for a human) long bow with a Small (made for a halfling) short bow? Oh, are we talking 3.0?

Anyway, I just let things scale. I think it's silly for a high STR PC to do more damage with a sling than with a long bow.

I was replying to HellHound's 3.5 houseruled version... where normally a small longbow/medium shortbow maxed out at +2 and a medium longbow/large shortbow at +4, with provision to increase the figures by 50% with special materials etc.
