D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

You got that backwards. Casino Royale was Bakarat when written. Texas Holden exploded in popularity so they change it for the Craig film.
Exactly. Hold'Em exploded in pop culture in 2003 when Chris Moneymaker won the World Series Of Poker in 2003. We then had several years of shows like Celebrity Poker Showdown and the like (in addition to all the televised poker on ESPN) before they ever released Casino Royale in 2006.

So I dunno how much we can take that other poster's "history" on the release and sales of 5E14 seriously. ;)

Have you ever thought about the world being more than just the US?

In many parts of the world texas hold em became famous after casino royale.

And the main argument was that tv/movies makes games popular. So your argument "actually in this 1 country another tv stuff made it popular before your example". Does not change anything.

Casino Royale wouldn't have switched casino games like @payn mentioned if it hadn't already been huge for 3 years prior to it. The Bond films might have extended and took Hold'Em's audience into new locations it hadn't yet reached, but it was already huge.

Just like 5E14 was already popular prior to Big Bang Theory and Critical Role. Those two things just made it even bigger by bringing it up into new locations it hadn't yet reached.

Things that become "phenomenons" are things that are already huge with their core audiences... but then find that special thing that suddenly breaks them out of their box to become over the top with the general pop culture audience. And usually that is due to something outside of the "core" that hitches it's wagon to it and brings it to whole new groups of people. Whether that be fans of espionage films, or fans of sitcoms and YouTube.
