Okay...as was said, that's fine for you.

But why does that have to be how it is for everyone? Scroll down on the main forum page to the Playing the Game and Talking the Talk forums...there are a GREAT many people who do play online. What's so wrong with giving them better options for it with the DI beyond it being different than what you prefer?

If they want to make DI then let them do it with 3.5e. I don't see why DnD has to become 4e in order to have DI. If the new Star Wars book is anything along what 4e is going to be like its going to be crap.

They don't. However, since they were planning 4E and planning the DI it only makes sense to develop DI with 4E in mind.

To a lesser extent, it also makes sense to develop 4E with the DI in mind. By that I mean to makes rules that play well with online content (if you've ever tried to get any of the character generators to work with a rules book that "breaks the old rules" you know what I mean).

Sure. This sounds find at the outset. But do you know how many house rules I'll need to get it the way I like running my games.

5 PC Stud, Aces and Paladins are wild.

Unfortunately, no :(

Oh well. I tried. You must admit, it was a valiant effort.

Like, it doesn't actually hurt you that something exists you can't use. You don't need it to play Fourth Edition, at all.

But right there, on the front page here at ENWorld, the words of the WotC crew demonstrate, repeatedly, that if you want the complete tools needed to play 4th Edition, you must be online. If you want to be privy to the latest news and information, you must be online. That if you want to be able to get thorough and complete use out of your books, you must be online.

FAQ, errata, free articles, designer comments. If you want the most out of 3e, you have to be online. :)

Dragon Magazine. While not free, it was and remains the first choice of my compatriots. When Dragon is gone, as it soon shall be, they are all ready to close the curtain on Third Edition.
