We should hold a contest to see who can construct the most ridiculous, overblown hyperventilating misinterpretation of what he's said. The misinterpretation must, of course, proclaim doom and gloom about 4th edition.
Why bother when he does such a great job all by himself:

1. Playing D&D Online: There's a natural reaction to see this as similar to Warcraft and other MMOs, but I think that's a mistake. A better analogy might be online poker. Imagine you had a Wednesday night poker game. If that game broke up for whatever reason, online poker is something you might turn to for your poker fix. Or, maybe you simply can't find players. The really exciting thing to me is that it lets you game with friends you've met at coventions or via online forums. If someone talks about their cool campaign on the message boards, you can now play in that cool game without flying across the world.
Why play a tabletop game of the imagination with friends when you could buy all these cool minis and tiles and run everything all by yourself on a computer!?!

Who? Who is the winner? :)

LOL. I'm thinking about your idea trying to imagine the friends you have to come up with something like that. I'm scared! :D

Look at it this way, GenCon will move to Las Vegas and expenses to travel there will go down.

That would so rock!

Only question then is which hotel is the convention hotel. Is it the Hilton with the Star Trek Experience and Quarks bar? Is it Excalibur with their castle and Tournament of Kings? Is it Luxor with it's King Tut museum? Caesar's Palace with it's Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis? Treasure Island with the Pirate show?

Oh, that's rich, considering I can now never have a print version of the electronic 'Dungeon' or 'Dragon'.

Hey, I was in the Army, I recognize a lack of reach-around when I see it.

They also said they will be releasing print versions, I believe once a year in a bound volume.

So you have no friends scattered around the country, or who live at least far enough away that they can't make a session on a regular basis? Playing online with strangers isn't the draw for me; it's the possibility of gaming with guys I gamed with 25+ years ago who live 2500 miles away.

I have friends who I have gamed for years as well, but when they move they move and I move on. I find new friends to game with, and sometimes a whole new group just as those who have moved find new friends and a new group to game with. Interpersonal relationships in a gaming group is essential for fun and you just can't get that with a computer screen no matter how much you try.

Friend moves or you, find new friends and a new group.

Sorry, but that is not how I am interpretting this digital bullcrap. It seems you will need this Insider subscription thing to get errata and updates to the core rules in order to play the game. No print version at all and if you don't have the subscription you are screwed.

Actually, I posted a thread linking to the 4E FAQ.

Errata will be free and will not require a subscription to DDI. Likewise, the SRD will be free and will not require DDI.

Okay...as was said, that's fine for you.

But why does that have to be how it is for everyone? Scroll down on the main forum page to the Playing the Game and Talking the Talk forums...there are a GREAT many people who do play online. What's so wrong with giving them better options for it with the DI beyond it being different than what you prefer?

Interesting....
And how about all those gamers that claim they can have the same kindda fun playing RPG online they have while playing it face-to-face? How do you call them?
a)Liers. They don't have the same kind of fun.
b)Nuts
c)Losers
d)Liers. They never played face-to-face RPG
e)None of the above

When Gen Con moves to Las Vegas, I hope it doesn't go to the Excalibur! It was a comfortable hotel but jeez, the tackiest place in the Tackiest Place on Earth.
