Mechanics Balanced? d20 Jedi Classes versus D&D Wizards

Do you think (considering the assumptions below) that Jedi are balanced with 3E Wiz?

Depends on how the Force and Magic interact. Can the Jedi use See Force to detect the invisible Wizard? Can the Jedi use Dissipate Energy to absorb attacks?
Again, I just think that the Jedi is balanced with things much different than the Wizard, and they don't really mix well at all.

The way I'd like to work Magic versus the Force is similar to the "Psionics are Different" option out of the PsiHB. The two would be entirely different animals.

You've all brought up very good points that I hadn't considered. I've been reading through d20 Star Wars a little today, and realizing just how important the Deflect abilties are; I'd have to leave them in the class. I have a good feeling that using the Jedi classes, skills, and feats as a starting point for several d20 Modern-style AdC and PrC will be a good way to integrate the mechanics into a post-modern story, and instead of using the Wizard class from the PHB, use the basic classes from d20 Modern, and then allow the Mage AdC and Archmage PrC.

You Burst of Speed and charge up to the Wizard...and then he'll be in serious trouble. It all depends on what level/equipment/etc etc. There are too many variables. :)
 

I'm actually in the process of limiting some of those variables. I'm sitting here with the d20 Star Wars book and the d20 Modern book. I'm going to work Jedi into a Padawan AdC, using the classes from the d20 Star Wars book and the Mage AdC as a benchmark.


After all the criticism and observations here, I'm inclined to agree that it's a little fishy without some more defined ideas, especially with the limitations and changes I want to make.

Okay. So unless the Jedi can divine the location of the Wizard anywhere in the world, teleport near that location instantly, erect a unescapable forecage, and proceed to barage said cage with lots of nasty stuff.....before gating in a Solar, stopping time, and wishing that reality itself was altered, my money is on the Wizard.
 

Curious about the results

I have a mish-mosh of genres in my game right now and would be interested in seeing the results of your Padawan Advanced Class and Jedi prestige classes.

That is, if you're willing to share. :D

1) Why don't use normal HP and give Jedi a different pool of Force Points? say 4/level (you can add a fatigued rule if you like the concept)
then you can play with hp, skill point and feat to balance them with the wizard. This way you have an alternative Psi...(er. force) system and a nice class to use
3) I would give a 1st level class power to let them bond to a sword so they can channel the force into it
