Meeting EnWorlders at GenCon - Good or Bad?

It has been awesome.

I've cemented some relationships from being posters I chat with or admire to being good friends. And a lot of others I know I'd be quite willing to make into close firneds if I had the time and chance.

Made a great friend with Crothian at Origins a few years ago, and Tefflon Billy at GenCon the year before - neither being people I interacted with exceptionally on-line prior to the occasion. I also cemented my friendship with Psion, but we had interacted enough online over the years that we were already friends, it was just really nice to meet him in person.

I would like to make better friends of others that I met, such as Buttercut, Cthulhu's Librarian, HandofEvil (who -isn't- going to GenCon this year), Shawn Sines, and many more. But that takes more time and effort on my part, and I seem to be overwhelmed most of the time at Origins and GenCon.

:)

E.N. Worlders ROCK MY WORLD. Really.

I've even met Jason at Gencon! he handed me a copy of Arcane Strife at Gencon '03. :) Awesome book, by the way -- still use it.

I too, have enjoyed spending time with every ENWorlder I have had the opportunity to meet.

The only complaint about GenCon, is that last year I was a bit overwhelmed with my first Con experience to really talk to alot of cool people. I will remedy that this year.

Also, since quite a few of the coolest ENWorlders live in my area, I have had the awesome experience of hang with them at TerpCon (MD-DC-VA Gaming Day).

***Blatant Plug*** Watch for the next TerpCon, coming this October at the University of Maryland. :) I swear publicity will be better this time.

I have never met an EN Worlder that I wish I hadn't.

There may be a couple of people that our styles are different enough we would not probably be gaming friends but I am glad that I met them anyway.

I am sorry I am missing GenCon this year and the chance to meet more people.

The worst I got at Gen Con was a poster who was one of those typical "*lisp* Lemme me tell you about my character *lisp*" folks. Oh, and there was one guy in the Candiana suite last year who gave me a hard time about not being funny, but I already know my joke delivery sucks, and that was just a slight disagreement in personality.

I love Dextra, Hellhound, Teflon Billy, Russ the time I got to see him, Klaus, Pkitty, KidCthulhu, and a bunch of other folks who I don't have time to mention. But I hope to see most of them again this year.

So and So: "Bye"

that was probably me. i'm very shy in public. i don't stick out. and you'd probably quickly forget what i looked like or if you'd even met me. when compared to any other generic older gamer.

at gen con indy 03 i must've stopped by the ENWurld booth at least every other hour for 3 of the days. i was trying to collect signatures and well wishes for Angelsboi. he was to travel with me to gen con, but got too sick.

i know i wasn't outspoken enough. :o

i did make a special effort to talk with anthony valterra for Ryan. they had lost contact with each other.

i also picked up stuff for other gamers in my group that couldn't make it. and dave arneson's signature for my DM.

This is what I regret most about not being able to go.

There are many, many here that I would love to meet face to face. Several of them I'd be honored to buy an adult beverage for as well...

(And, before I die, I have to play an OD&D pick up game with diaglo as DM at Gen*Con.) ;)

I haven't been to GenCon for years and I'm relatively new to En World. However, I have met several En Worlders (diaglo, howandwhy99, JoeBlank, biorph, et. al.) through the Gamers Seeking Gamers forum here. Great guys all. It seems there are more ways to meet EnWorlders than just at GenCon. What's fun is seeing how closely, or more usually how far off, the visual image you build up in your mind matches the real deal.

"You said you were six feet tall."

"You said you were a woman!"
