Memorable city fight encounter? ran it last night!

Hi,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the suggestions! I ran the encounter last night and it went off almost perfectly. The air genasi bard/fighter with the whip grabbed the sword on his first attempt and flung it into the air to be caught by the arrowhawk. The party wizard brought down the arrowhawk with magic missile, dropping the scimitar on to the fountain. I had a greedy merchant and a nobleman climb the fountain to get the sword as the PCs hurried to get there, then introduced the monkey wearing the fez. Because the fountain was slippery, quite a few PCs and NPCs slid down it or fell off, smashing some expensive merchandise. One PC used Intimidate to get through a crowd of gawping onlookers. Then, the PCs battled the janni swordsage and his companions on the fountain, with blade magic maneuvres aplenty!

The only bit I cocked up was not anticpating the PCs' using dimension door to get to the fountain and overlooking the rubbish janni fly speed (15' or 20' unarmoured). With the strings of magical lights creating difficult terrain, it took ages for them to get there as I made the courtyard of the Khanduq of the Four Winds where the fight took place quite big. It didn't really matter as the PCs had to deal with the slippery stairs, the opportunist NPCs and the monkey.

Anyway, thanks again for all the advice. It was well worth all the effort!

Cheers

I was just wondering about this. Congratulations! Glad it was so much fun. I'm only sorry I couldn't have been a fly on the wall.

If you have a fight scene in a marketplace, you are required by law to have a stand full of birdcages knocked over, causing squawking chickens to fly everywhere. :)
Ah yes, RPG Code 47:329c - Marketplace Fight Foul Inclusion Clause

"In the course of exciting fight scenes in crowded marketplaces, at least one stall must contain no more than 150 and no less than 25 easily panicked birds (preferably Gallus gallus - the domesticated chicken) wherein the belligerents must ensure that said cages/stalls are intruded upon and said avians are set loose to run rampant among the aforementioned contenders to present distraction, and at a bare minimum, some levity from the scene."

And don't forget sub-clause 47:329c.4.1.6.g

"At the end of the battle constrained by the tenets of the Marketplace Fight Foul Inclusion clause, at least one of the victors (preferably the primary damage dealer - hereafter referred to as "the tank") must emerge from a damaged market stall, expectorate a large amount of feathers from their mouth, and utter a pithy statement."
