Mesopotamia -- impressions?

I leafed through it at the FLGS, as I was quite interested in it. Too much adventure for me, though; I would likely use it as a source of inspiration & ideas for other campaigns (including GURPS or other non-d20/D&D/OGL campaigns) or maybe a one-shot or the like, rather than run a full-on Mesopotamian campaign. Thus, I'd rather have 75% sourcebook to 25% adventure, max; that would be more bang for my buck.

I ended up not getting it. Maybe later.

Mesopotamia's premise is more up my alley -- and I was especially pleased with its Cthulhu-esque tone.
darn, that's the deal-breaker for me. :\

i really like ancient, Bronze/Iron Age settings, but i have an intense dislike for Cthulhuesque weird horror / dark fantasy.

i thoroughly enjoyed Testament and Nyambe. i plan on getting GR's Trojan War at some point, and i'm very interested in taking a look at Ari's Egypt setting when it is ready. :)

Well, that was just my impression, and I may be forcing an interpretation on it based on my intense fondness for Cthulhuesque creepiness! Don't be turned off by my half-baked view -- look at it yourself. (Though it is surprising just how weird some of those ancient Sumerian myths were.) It is clear that a lot of research went into this project.

I actually think it could fit well with Testament. (I have a lot of respect for Testament, but just did not like its central premise.)

Interesting, as my frustration with many d20 products, especially those with a historical bent, is the LACK of useful adventures! Green Ronin's *Medieval Europe* was excellent IMO, and the kind of product I love -- but I was SOOOO annoyed that there was not a single adventure in it! Even if I do not end up using the adventure(s) included in a campaign setting, I find them useful as a model for how to construct my own setting-specific adventures.

I've looked at the setting parts of a friends copy (can't read the adventure as I probably end up playing in it), and I'm impressed. It's a good product and I like the feel of the setting. It would be possible to do a dark fantasy/cthulhoid campaign with it, but its not the only way to do it.
