Reaper is in no financial difficulty. It was a long time since the last price increase from Reaper, and they could no longer absorb the vast increase in the price of their primary material. And not all the minis went up so much.

They also have a rather nifty mini search tool. You can sort figs by race, class, weapons, armor, sculptor, etc. They also do the Exalted line these days.

But when you figure that the same mini from another company would probably be in the $25-30 range, I've got no problem paying Reapers price. I mostly buy single minis which, as I said before, are now $3.99. That is still a bargain as far as I'm concerned.

When you say that a pack of minis has gone from 8.99 to 12.99, are you talking about the same exact minis, or are you comparing different (but similar) sets? The Warlords line is a little more expensive all around, so if you are comparing different sets, make sure you are not looking at different lines.

As others (and myself) have mentioned earlier, the price of the raw metal (tin) has doubled over the past year. How exactly do you expect a company to stay in business if they cannot raise their prices in reaction to the realities of the manufacturing world? Sorry, but they have held off on price increases for a long time, and I've got no problems. I'd rather they raise the prices slightly now, than wait even longer and then start having big financial difficulties.
 

Tin prices are outrageous! I just bought some pewter ingots for casting and they were 180% of the price I paid this time last year! I started mixing lead back into my alloy...
 

I'm comparing apples to apples - the exact same pack of minis. I went online and was going to order some for an upcoming battle (I already bought a pack from them earlier this year), and then I saw the price - and did a doubletake! They were 8.99 and now they're 12.99. No thanks. Click. Next website.

I can understand rising costs of production but I think increasing your prices by approx 40% is a little ridiculous. That's why you don't "save up" price increases and whack your customers over the head with them all in one shot. Besides, IIRC individual minis were 2.49 (?) last year, then 2.99, now 3.49 or 3.99. That's a lot of price increases. And how do we know it won't go up another buck or two in the next 6-12 months? When is enough enough?

Granted, Reaper has excellent minis but with that kind of increase I'd rather buy a bunch of plastics from WotC. My point isn't to rail on Reaper and say that they're ripping us off. My point is that kind of price increase will drive away a lot of consumers. Sure, the loyal fans who collect metal minis may stick around, but new customers will see plastic minis for much cheaper (from WotC) and go that route. Sure, the quality isn't as good but for the non-diehards it's good enough. Remember, for every person that speaks out (like me), they are 100 who stop buying but don't say anything. The last thing I want to see is Reaper become a company that only creates high-ends minis for the hardcore collector. The guy at my FLGS told me about another line of minis (something like Conquerors or Confrontation?) and how great their quality is (which it was). But then I saw the price - 8.99 for a single mini? Are you crapping me? No thanks. I'll stick with Reaper. At least until I saw the latest price increase.

I really like Rackham's Confrontation miniatures! I've bought a few of the Wolfen which are really cool and am going to come up with D&D stats for them. If anyone has already done this, post here!

I like their minis, but I find most of the individual ones (heroes, etc.) to be too elaborate and over the top for D&D characters - not to mention, oversized.

On the other hand, tons of their minis that come in packs of three, and are usually a bit simpler and subdued, I found to be really great - in particular, the various Alahan minis, which are perfect for a D&D game in a Reneissance setting (which I'm playing in right now).
