Metamagic rod of quicken

What is the difference between a sorcerer and a 'Metamagic Specialist'?
Don't you just swap your familiar for 3+int mod metamagic without increased casting time?
Any other differences?
Does that mean you can spontainious quicken?

Yes, it means that you can spontaneously quicken, but only 3 + int mod times per day. Not 64 times per day.

Arcane preperation (should/would?) allow you to use the metamagic rods.

True, but then the Sorcerer would have to prepare all of his spells ahead of time which would be a major limitation.

Well, half of them: There is no mileage in quickening every spell! :D

Sorcerers and other spontaneous casters get no benefit from rods of Quicken.
Although, I think they would if the sorcerer gave up his familiar as per the PHBII to gain true casting times, even for quicken spells.

EDIT, oops, looks you guys covered that
