As moretheil alluded, the purpose of this thread was to back up a claim I made in an MIC thread.

This belt is clearly superior to one of the three uses of the Metamagic Rod of Greater Quicken, but the cost is staggeringly lower.

FWIW, this is anecdotal, but over on the PbP boards, it looks like everyone who has MIC and the cash to spare is suddenly getting that belt - meleers and casters alike.

Yeah, the extra full round action is ridiculous imo. Move actions are fine, it allows meleers to get into range for a full attack...and decent power up to help keep the fighter/caster balance, but anything past move actions can break easily.

Quick and dirty "underpriced" definition: Everybody buys one. Top contenders: handy haversack, cloak/vest of resistance. I've got nothing against either item, but they are the most commonly purchased items in most campaigns I've been in.

Quick and dirty "overpriced" definition: Everybody sells them if obtained. Top example: the helm of underwater action. I think this did something worthy of the price in first edition, but I seem to recall a freedom of movement like effect at that time. Now, it goes for cash without any debate at all everytime it's found, even in a campaign in which it would be helpfull.

In my experience, Metamagic Rods are infrequently purchased but rarely sold if found as random treasure. Seems like the price must be right.

In general I've found the rods have replaced the standard feats in most games I've played, especially the extend rod. That one is probably the nicest for the money.

cloak/vest of resistance

Those are bought because they are necessary on a pretty basic level more than because they are cheap, I'd guess. Same with ability enhancers, magic weapons and armor, and other AC boosts.

1/3 of people responded "broken at any price." Which just makes the new MIC items what, beyond broken?
If i'm being polite, "The Prices in the MIC seem set to make the book sell more rather than to make the book more balanced."

I think the lesser ones are underpriced, and the greater ones are overpriced!
The greater ones are OVERpriced? You think a quickened meteor swarm 3/day is worth less than 170,000gp...?

Weeeeell - I think meteor swarm is pretty useless at any time, but I conceded that a quickened one would be an excessively useful addition to a rounds activities, and there are a range of other nasty things that could be quickened at those levels.

We've not got near 17th level in a campaign yet. What proportion of a 17th level characters wealth would that be? Is it worth the alternatives?

(actually, if I thought about it I would perhaps say that any metamagic rod that lets you cast effectively 10th+ level spells might be too good at any price)

Cheers
