It's Mann. I'll see it. Opening day.

I am not a big Ferrel fan, but Foxx is a great idea. I know I'll like him better then the original actor who played Tubbs.

I can't watch the trailer, i have quicktime issues. But I heard they are playing this movie straight. Not like the Starsky and Hutch movie or other TV shows they remade into movies.

I think playing it straight is a good idea. I hate it when they take (semi-) serious shows and turn them into comedies.

But...

They may be playing it too straight. There was no trace of the original Miami Vice theme in the trailer. Now, that might just be the people who cut the trailer together, but that theme is as iconic as the show itself.

I admit up-front that this is probably a really stupid criterion to hold to--but if there's no trace of the theme somewhere in the movie, I doubt I'll go see it.

They didn't use much of the SWAT theme in the remake of SWAT. Just a little bit, but very little. And the theme was probably more popular than the show.

I wish they had picked different actors though. It seems like Hollywood likes to shove certain actors down your throat. Used to be Jude Law, now it's Colin Farrell. Blah.

I have to say, I'm cautiously excited about this.

  • The trailer was attached to King Kong and really blew me away. Looks slick, looks like Michael Mann, looks Miami.
  • There's a great story buried in all the silly glitz and glamour of MV -- how do you remain righteous when temptation is not only in your path, you're actually expected to give the appearance of falling for it?
  • Michael Mann has gotten REALLY good, and it'll be interesting to see him come back to that which first launched him.
  • Apparently Gong Li dances the samba.

as it is not yet rated, I am interested to see if they move to the "R" to be closer to the vice, as a fan of MV I am not happy with casting choice but as said above, Mann has been really good.

What are the objections to the casting? I don't get. Jamie Foxx is a terrific actor, and Colin Farrell seems to possess much the same sort of sleazy charm Don Jonson had back in the day. Are there nominations for superior casting?

Plus did I mention Gong Li dances the samba? Seriously, who cares about the guys? That's a must-see right there.
