With all the new stuff coming out. Is the 2nd edition of Midnight worth the money if I own the 1st edition and the Against the Shadow supplement

I'm not through with that book yet so I can't give you a definite answer.

What I've seen so far:

Races are structured better, as the traits that all mebers share are listed first, followed by everyhing where the races deviate, you won't read "+2 dex, -2 con" 4 times in the elves section

There is now a system for bartering, as items are assigned a value (in vp - value points). I haven't read that in any detail, but if I get it right, one vp is food for one day for one person. Values aren't fixed, as scarcity will make items more valuable.

Legates are no longer in the players' chapter, being a NPC class now.

edit: Oh, I've read the teaser material (the 32 or so pages at the beginning of the book which are all full-colour and another paper type) and races, and I'm reading heroic paths now.

I've been very impressed with it so far. The new herbalism rules are great, as was the restructuring of the bloodlines.

I really like the new VP system.

As a whole, the book is very well done. Well worth the money. I have the 1st edition stuff too, but I still think it was well worth getting.

I've been through most of the players' section, and the new classes are redone, as well. Seems much more structurized, and Channelers now get more special abilities.

I really like the new VP system.

Important Note: This is value point, not vitality point :D

I had one of the faulty books, which came apart, anyway. Wasn't too bad, I only payed half for the book (17 € on the Game Fair in Essen).

I was considering having it repaired, but that became unnecessary.

I just want to clarify that Kae'Yoss is referring to a 1st edition core book. There are no binding issues with Midnight 2nd Edition!!!!! :)

Yes, of course I meant the original Midnight, which had major issues with the binding. Later prints apparently don't have it any more, and neither does Midnight 2e.

It is worth buying if you are currently playing or running a Midnight campaign. There are plenty of changes from MN01, enough so that it changes the game quite a bit. Notably in my game is the changes to the Channeler class.

If you are not currently in a Midnight game I see no reason why you should buy it currently since you already have the two books MN2E replaces.
