First order of business, the big Elminster-goes-to-Eberron 2006 WotC event, including sourcebook, modules, novel and videogame! :p

Seriously, though, grats to him. I've freelanced in my life, and I just didn't have the intestinal fortitude for it. And for someone with a lot of ideas on how to make the game better, he's going to the right place.

I think we may have just witnessed the birth of the 4th edition development process...

August 2007.

It will be later then that unless they have actually already started the process.

This is good news.

I wonder how his first projects will be and if he'll be doing 'big' ones by himself or collaborating with other authors.

Now, as I understand it, Mike is what they call an "RPG Developer" which is different from an RPG Designer. As I understand it (hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong), a developer takes the designer's work and makes sure that all the rules and mechanics are sussed out properly for it.

I'm sure there's overlap, though. Either way, Mearls' d20-fu makes him a great choice for such a job.
