Mike Mearls now employed by WotC

Dang, I was actually hoping to see some more IH goodness from Mike now that he put that hook in me, but at least he laid the foundation down for others to build on.

But hell, congratz all the same.;)

You better work your way up to a designer's position quick so they can tap that brain of yours for 4e!

Cheers!

Chris whether you are being serious or joking this made me smile on a day at work where I'm feeling stressed so thanks. :)

Some people fit right in to WotC and do well there. Others, not so much. Mike's fun is finding out which camp he falls into. And note it's got nothing to do with talent or design chops, it's more about WotC's corporate culture and design philosophy. Having been through that, I can say with feeling, "You poor poor bastard." :)

Anyway, I'm sure Mike is busy celebrating and he doesn't need to hear this from me, so I'll shut up now.

Thanks everyone! The feedback I've received from EN World posters has helped make me a better designer, so thank *you* for everything.

I'm pretty excited about this opportunity. It's funny - this was the first time that I had fun at a job interview. There were times when I was disappointed that the interviews had to end. I was like, hey, let's keep going. I want to talk some more about D&D.
That's awesome. And if BiggusGeekus is getting free product, I want in on that action.

Actually, I think it's an important topic for freelancers. I meet a lot of current and would-be writers who are so excited about being published that they let publishers abuse them. I did a lot of research on WotC's work environment, the people there, and the atmosphere before I commited myself to applying.

The RPG industry is just like any other business - every company is different, and once the cool factor fades it's still a job. A fun job, one that I wouldn't trade for anything, but you have to approach it like any other business deal.

With all that in mind, WotC is a great match for me.

Mike, despite my amusement at Chris' comment earlier, congratulations and I hope it works out for you. I have bought and enjoyed a number of sourcebooks with your name on them, keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing your future work.
