Miniature Painting Killing My Eyes!

Confrontation: Interesting background with many of the factions spawning from one another and having direct ties and antagonism towards one another for past issues.

1. Very expensive. They take the idea of 'good' characters costing more that Games Workshop started and kick it up a notch. Some of their 'leader' style figures cost over $15.

2. Assembly. The joints on many of these figures are very delicate and require a lot of finese. Some of the larger figures or the simplier figures are generally easier to handle.

3. Size: This is where the 'savings' come in. Armies are much smaller, like war bands if you will and you can probably field a 'good' army with less than twenty figures. Heck, I'd say 10-15 for variety on most armies if you're using a lot of troop types, which aren't bad in price.

Brookhurst online has some good sales on them.

Other games that are interesting include Privateer Press's Iron Kingdom's own War Machine game. You play casters who control steam golems. Not quite as expensive as Confrontation but otherwise same notes go for it.

Warhammer is one of those games where it has a lot of interesting background and some interesting armies but you require larger armies to play. Ditto for Warhammer 40K. Both have recently gone into new editions so your army should be safe for a minute or three.

I've decided to go the pre-painted route and picked up a copy of the Star Wars Minis basic set and a load of commons from IconUSA. My kids have been asking for these for some time and there'll be a box under the tree! :)

For minis I'm painting, I've decided to only get those that directly support my ongoing RPG games. This gives me plenty of time to learn the craft and gradually get better, while enjoying those I finish at the table. No sudden rush to paint 20+ minis just so I can field an army for a game.

Thanks for everyone's input!

Sounds good. You can accumulate a nice variety of figures that way. Most of my painting these days is a result of needing something for my RPG. I originally got into Confrontation this way. I painted up some of the demons and ended up getting interested in the game.

Thanks Pogre for dropping a line! I checked out your minis a couple of weeks ago on Circvs Maximvs board and loved the dragon you painted!

I have a complete step-by-step on how I did the dragon in the art & miniatures forum. Just follow the link in my signature.

Keep on painting!
