Minor items negating major challenges

Well .. 4e is the system of ... "have enough residuum handy, and bamf .. any magic item can be made in 1 hour"

True, and at Epic there's almost always enough materials handy if you want there to be. But usually when they find out there's a skill challenge it's immediate, and they don't have time to crank out items (1 hour per item).
