Minotaur Advancement Questions

Soladrin

To be honest, the rules for adding class levels to a monster that already has HD are pretty confusing. Until Savage Species comes out, I normally check out the above link. They explain things slowly, which is just perfect for me. Maybe it can help you all out too.

The MM has the damage of the charge as 4d6+6.

What the STR bonus of a stock minotaur? +4? Generally when creatures have some special attack that takes the place of their other attacks, they get a damage bonus of STR*1.5 on it. 4*1.5 = 6.

So if the monster HD are treated as class levels, an unclassed ogre PC should start with 2 feats (lvl 4 character) instead of 1 (Large 4 HD giant-type).

Perhaps you're being facetious, because of course the example in the DMG p. 24, reiterates that the ogre gets one feat. All abilities, skills, and feats for the monster are used in place of those first monster levels ("statistics based on these Hit Dice"). The treatment of HD as levels is for experience and advancement purposes thereafter ("Experience for Monsters").

This is true neither in the DMG nor in the FRCS.
