As for words: I'd rather be told I'm using a word incorrectly, rather than being allowed to continue to make a fool of myself.
And when I'm wrong, I'd say: "Huh, you're right. I did not know that." (rather than "Well, I meant to say it that way" or some such deflection). ...kinda the same response I give when it's been pointed out to me I'm using a rule incorrectly. I may get a brused ego occasionally ("schooled" is the correct term, I think
), but it's a passing thing.
The rules forum is the place to go and get advice on how to use rules....among other things.
