Miss GenCon, Miss the Memories

Ever since I was a wee gamer, it has always been my dream to go to the mecca of all gaming conventions, the gathering place of thousands of souls, the greatest and grandest of all gaming paraphenelia hosters and sellers and buyers. The great and wonderful GenCon.

Ever since I started lurking at EN World, I've heard people go on about the EN World gathering and how cool it was - it always made me sad because I couldn't go.

But not next year. Next year, I'll do my damndest to go to GenCon! And when I get there, I want to meet everybody at EN World! Not just a few specific people I have in mind (I do want to meet certain people more, though), I mean everybody! I want every EN Worlder there to go up, shake my hand, and say hi. And I'll smile back and say "I finally made it, thank you for shaking my hand." I'll be at all the gatherings, chatting it up with you wonderful people and have the time of my life.

Next year. Next year.

I definatly know how that feels...except I can't say 'next year', since my plans next year are already booked...(moving out of country just before GenCon)

I'm having to say...two years...just two years.

well the miss gencon is a bit different then a normal beauty pagent:

She has to look good in a chain mail bikini
She has to be able to drink a case of Mtn Dew eat an entire bag of doritos and still be able to concentrate on the game.
Most importantly she needs the super natural ability of being such a kick ass gamer that four over sexed men forget she's a chick while they are playing.

I agree with you Talath; I've never been, but I want to go next year, and I want to try to bring my gaming group and my girlfriend(who's not a gamer...yet).

EDIT: Also, you(Talath), Piratecat, and Eric Noah are definitely on my list of people I wanna meet at Gencon; I've also gotta buy Eric an apology beer for my jerky behavior a few months ago(and if GMS goes to Gencon I'm gonna buy him one if I can track him down for the same reasons as EN).

Yes, GMS is Gareth Michael Skarka; I feel the need for an apology beer(although sadly I can't share a beer with Eric or Gareth; next GenCon I'll be about a month away from turning 21) for both him and Eric; either that or an apology puppy. Eric, would you like a fat female bulldog named Maybelline? Would she be acceptable?

I'm hoping to get Angcuru, RakeRon, and Vechs to come with me, as well as Beth; I think I can get the first three to come along as part of my crew(if I can publish my monster book before next Gencon or premiere it at Gencon, RakeRon is writing some monsters up for it, Vechs hopefully will do the illustrations, and I'm hoping Angcuru will help contribute as well).

Gen Con's fun but there are also scheduling troubles, over-expensive convention center food, smelly gamers who seem to have shower-phobia, backed up toilets, noisy game rooms, and a host of things that can go wrong.

I'm not trying to bring the Gen Con experience down, but I don't want you setting unreachable expectations and being disappointed when you finally make it to Indianapolis.

I'm whatchacall a proponent of setting your expectations low. Then you will almost always be pleased by the real thing.
