Been doing some reading through my different D&D books, as well as issue 15 of The Oerth Journal, I finally decided to do some minor alterations to my future campaign's portrayal of Pelor, God of Light and Life, and Nerull, God of Darkness and Death.
Since Darkness is part of Nerull's portfolio, I decided to alter his Domain list a bit, adding Darkness and Corruption (from Book of Vile Darkness), emphasizing his aspect as a Dark deity of slow destruction. I'd combine Nerull's portrayal with that of Erebus from Dragon magazine #322, a god of darkness and shadow-like undead. In short, making Nerull more Sauron-like..
Pelor, I'd leave more or less as-is, although I'd also give him the Glory domain (from Complete Divine) and the Celestial domain (from Book of Exalted Deeds), and I'd emphasize his concept as a god of Light.
Then, playing on the notion brought up in OJ15 where a Flan creation Myth makes Pelor and Nerull into brothers, I'd work harder on making the two gods into serious enemies, with Pelor's servants laboring to fight against the dark schemes of Nerull's minions, who return the favor by sabotaging the do-gooding efforts of Pelor's servants...
I'd also connect both Pelor and Nerull a bit more to Heironeous and Hextor respectively, with The Invincible fighting for Pelor, and the Champion of Evil fighting on Nerull's behalf (though this alliance would be shaky at best, and enforced mainly through Nerull [greater deity] being more powerful then Hextor [intermediary deity]). Alternatively, making Pelor and Nerull into Heironeous and Hextor's respective fathers would be a good connecting thread, too...
So, any opinions on this?
