"Moisture-damaged" CoC d20 books might not be...

First Post
After reading a post that complained about a Call of Cthulhu d20 book ordered from WotC's online store that had apparently been exposed to moisture during shipping, causing a "wobble" in the pages, I checked my own copy of CoC - and sure enough, it has the very "wobble" described.

However, I didn't order it online - I bought it from a local game store.

Yesterday, while I was out, I checked into a couple of the local game stores and looked over their copies of CoC on the shelves. Sure enough, they all displayed that characteristic "wobble".

So I emailed an acquaintance of mine across the country, and when he replied - sure enough - he indicated that his store-bought copy of CoC had the now-seemingly-ubiquitous "wobble".

Of course, there are copies of CoC out there that don't display this characteristic. However, the fact that it's shown up in so many copies - in different cities in at least once case, no less - might lead one to believe that it has nothing to do with shipping procedures at WotC's online store. At this point, I'd suspect that they came that way from the printer; for at least a small but significant portion of the print run, perhaps they were stored improperly, or perhaps someone buggered up the drying agent in the inks - I have no way of knowing.

However, I'd like to know how widespread this problem really is. So, two question for y'all:

1) Does your copy of CoC have a "wobble" to the pages? (i.e. they don't lie perfectly flat, but appear wavy when viewed edge-on.)

2) Is your copy store-bought or ordered from WotC's store?

- Sir Bob.

My signed copy I picked up at the local store has the wobble. But it really hasn't bothered me at all. I've read through it a coup[le of times and it's not effecting anytyhing. Binding is still nice and intact.

1. Since I have no idea by "wobble" what you even mean, I'm assuming my copy from amazon.com is "normal".

2. The fact this thread even exists (and that we've replied to it) means we seriously need to get out more....

:D

Its a safety measure.

The wobbles are to prevent Hounds of Tinalos using it as a gateway. They love straight edges that produce angles, but curves provide no portal for them to enter.

Mine is FLGS purchased and has the 'wobble' - I didn't notice it until I was paging through and some of the pags started to curl up. Glad to know it's not just my copy.

speaking of which, anyone seen the leatherbound limited edition CoC? That is a nice looking book...

Conspiricy Theory

1. FACT: Hasbro produces Weebles in the 1970's.
2. FACT: Weebles WOBBLE but they don't fall down.
3. FACT: Hasbro buys Wizards of the Coast in the late 1990's.
4. FACT: In the early 21st century, WotC published d20 Call of Cthulhu.
5. FACT: New d20 CoC book reported to have a distinct WOBBLE.

Coinkydink? I think not.

I also heard Hasbro found a stash of old Weebles figures in their cellars recently. When they opened up the box, they discovered the Weebles had been water damaged.

This gave the Weebles a distinct appearance some have compared to "the Innsmouth look".

Draw whatever conclusions you like...

(Insufferably pleased with myself :D )
