Mongooses' Sheloth: City of The Drow - Anyone get this yet?

Is Mongoose on track to being the next FFE?

It would seem unlikely. The thread you mention has very few outright bans in it. Mongoose have been around longer, and generally have some good stuff in the books. FFE stuff (from what I've heard, having never read any) is simply bad. Mongoose stuff is generally problematic.

PS Derulbaskul... just out of intrest, I know that you did live in Singapore, and I was wondering if you went to school there, and if so which one.

No, I didn't go to school there (thank God) but I did so 1 1/2 years of schooling in Bogor, Indonesia in the mid '70s. Are you from Singapore?

I lived in Singapore as an adult for 3 1/2 years until August 2002. I'm now back in Brisbane but go to Singapore from time to time (including next week) and may even move back there next year (love the food and the weather... and the unbelievably low rate of personal tax) depending on how some things I am working on offshore work out.

Hehe... I really must find out how to change my domicile one day....

Cheers

No lived there for 4.5 years until just before my 18th birthday. That was 9 years ago now... Haven't been back for 8.5 years, but I'd like to check it out again.

Actually, it's a little depressing because it is going backwards economically.

The problem is that communism doesn't work, even if you call it capitalism (I am referring to private companies owned by individual members of an unelected government owning about 80% of all corporate assets... and then being mismanaged in a public service sort of way... oh, and Enron almost pales into insignificance compared to some of the covered-up happenings at various government-linked corporates). Also, the great stream of cash from Indonesian Chinese (plus Bapak Suharto and family) and Myanmar drug barons has dried up so that's not giving the economy the fillip it has needed.

On the positive side, the food is still fantastic: I'm already plotting out my meetings so that I have time to go to my favourite hawker centres for red fried rice, chicken rice etc....

Cheers

Any other comments here?

If the book 3.0 or 3.5? Psion mentioned that it looks like the NPCs were created randomly but I wasn't aware of any 3.5 software for it so were they hand crafted after or ?

I think you missed some of the implications of what I posted.

NPCgen is a 3.0 program, and is not being regularly updated anymore, so I doubt a 3.5 version exists yet, and I am just about certain one didn't exist in the timeframe that the manuscript would have had to been prepared. From the one example I cited, it appears as if they were made as 3.0 chars with NPCgen with a search and replace on the updated skills, judging from the alphebetical position of craft (alchemy) (which is where "alchemy" would have been in the list.)

This tempted me to check on the bards, who has different skill points to see if it was tweaked accordingly (I haven't done this yet as NPCgen created NPCs tend to have a lot of cross-class skills, which making tallying skill totals a little tricky.)

To Psion or someone with a copy of the book:

Did your copy include a poster map? I looked through it in the store and the book I checked didn't have one but those things have a tendency to go AWOL.

Nooooo... Mongoose, take a short cut and get sloppy with the design and editing? Say it isn't so!

Yep. Nothing impresses me more than watching a company take a cheap shot at another company.

Yeah Wulf, what's the matter with you?

Leave the'cheap' shots to the people reading the book and pointing out the flaws eh? Sheesh...:p
