Monk Help! Naturak attacks and improved unarmed strike...

Belzbet

First Post
I was looking into making a Human-Half-dragon (Monk/Initiate of the Dragon Mysteries) NPC for my current game. Half-Dragons have 2 natural claw attacks. I was wondering if the monks improved unarmed strike ability improves my natural attacks? Also how does flurry of blows work? Do I gain an unarmed stirke (which iterative attacks) in additiaon to my natural claws (where I can choose either one or the other during an attack)? Or does improved unarmed strike improve my natural attacks (where flurry of blow would add the bonus attacks, with the attack mod., but where I wouldnt get any iterative attacks)?

The monk's improved unarmed strike and unarmed damage progression do not effect its natural attacks.

You can flurry with your unarmed strikes and then attack with your natural attacks as secondary attacks (with the additional penalties this entails).

You cannot flurry with your claws because they are not monk weapons.

Thank you for responding...another question: so anytime you make a full attack do you think the half-dragon can also make 2 claws AND bite (as secondardy attacks), since an unarmed strike can even be performed with your hands full (as per the rules); so could I (full) attack with my legs then get 2 claws and a bite (at -5) EVERY time I make a full attack?

Yes.

You'll find that it's not all that great (I have a thri kreen monk).

*head desk* this is a realm of complicated I've yet to even delve into, because I roll enough dice as it stands with all my NPCs, and don't need another means to slow the game down further. Shame, considering this really has dangerous potential despite the drawback being mentioned thus far (even without bringing in two weapon fighting). May not be able to hit anything, most of the time, but Crit happens, you know?
