Mathematically speaking, is Monkey Fist really that great, when you can just use Power attack? Let's use a greataxe as the example.

Normal: 6.5 dmg, -2 whenever you want to do 8.5
Large: 10.5 dmg, -2 all the time

The thing is, is it better against the array of AC's one often fights at any given CR? And what about the chances of finding a kick butt LARGE greataxe? It's almost always going to need to be commissioned if you want a new goodie.

Wouldn't 3.5e Power Attack (attack -2) grant you (5+16)/2 = 10.5 average damage, since Great Axes are two-handed weapons?

The advantage would be the ability to wear a shield while doing better average damage BEFORE Power Attack, since one-handed weapons are always going to lose to two-handed weapons when it comes to Power Attack.
