Monster Manual 2...super rant!!!

Well I thought the illustrations in Scarred Lands Campaign Setting WAS great, even though Relics and Rituals 2 was little up and down. Still, love that picture for "Beetle Swarm" :)

Btw Scott, that is ONE awesome cover for Tome. MM2 was nice but yours, well Clark really HAS to be pleased with that work.

Hmm ... did you get the expurgated version, or something?

Expurgated version of Monster Manual 2?

The one without the golems.

The one with out the Golems! They've all got golems - they're a standard RPG monster!

Well I don't like them. They wet their nests.

Alright, I'll remove it!

*RIP*

Well, many third party books have awful art. I say this because I am pretty good at drawing myself. But, the Monster Manual II has one abysmal drawing. THE BOGGLE! That one is just downright pathetic. A illustration like that one makes the monster look crappy, even though it isn't that bad a creature.

Agreed. As a kid I always thought the Boggle was cool because of its resemblance to Gollum. The ridiculous rendition in the MM2 will never appear in one of my games. The Gravorg is pretty awful as well. Fortunately the art quality of those monsters is in the distinct minority.

Nope- didnt cut art at all. There is a preview (art included) of the Tome on the Necromancer Games site.

Here is the cover and back panel art:

http://www.necromancergames.com/previews/toh.html

And here is the preview of the book:

http://www.necromancergames.com/pdf/Tome_Teaser.pdf

Stats and art for Hutijin (Duke of Hell), Lucifer (yes the same Lucifer you are thinking of), Moloch (Arch Devil), Nupperibo, Tormentor of Souls, Flail Snail, Flind, Floating Eye, Flumph, Giant Fly, Fogwarden, Forester's Bane, Forlarren (hot chick :D), Titivilus, and Monstrous Frogs.

And just to pimp it some more :D; Hardcover, 400+ monsters, November 2002, $29.95

Check the Necromancer Games boards for an entire list of the monsters in teh book.

Ok, that's it, I am completely sold. I was trying to resist yet another monster book (I have 4 for 3E alone not including all the conversions I have done or am doing of old stuff) but that preview has convinced me that this is the monster book for me.

I haven't seen anything for the MM2 yet (not on sale here in London AFAIK) but I'm not ruling it out. It does look like they have a good balance of creatures though so that is a plus (and I'd second the call for more evil Fey critters).

Is there a similar breakdown of ToH? ie how many of each creature type are there?

<koff> the starving displacer beast in the first MM (which looks like Cheetor from Beast Machines in the waist) doesn't even match the description in the entry... Poor thing needs a cheeseburger... :D

I'd have to go back and find my breakdown list, but everything balances out pretty evenly. If we have "too many" of anything it would be outsiders (demons, devils, yugoloths/daemons, demodands), but then again...can ya really ever have too many outsiders? :D

Never mind about the list of whats in there! I just saw the link on your web page.

OMG! this is going to be a must own monster book! Consider one more copy of ToH sold! :)

I really like the idea of having stats for all those great 1e monsters. Now I just need 2nd edition monsters, like Planescape monsters and Dark Sun monsters...and Zodar... ;)

Wow. I never played 1e but with everyone saying how much they want this book (and 400 monsters for $30 is a steal), I just got to have it.

When does this thing come out agian?
