Monster Manual Humans?

Got a question- I know that the MM has entries for all the non-human races (elves, dwarves, etc.) and their sub-races. I am also pretty sure that some of the more recent MMs (MMIV, I believe) have entries for classed demihumans (such as drow).

Why no human love? Have there been entries for classed humans at all? Like the old Cyclopedia and/or Monstrous Compendium entries for things like Pirates, Berserkers, Dervishes, etc.?

I imagine the rationale is that humans are pretty easy to stat up, having no racial mods, but with the additional skill points and feats, they can get tricksy to easily and quickly stat (I always forget about the extra skill points myself). Not to mention the rationale of having classed demihumans/humanoids for quick play should apply just as much to humans.

Every statted NPC in the DMG and DMG 2 is assumed to be human, and the majority of sample NPCs are also human. So yes, there have been lots and lots of classed humans.

What's missing though was the organisational information and common equipment and even class breakdown that the 1eMM had for different groups of humans.

Shouldn't really be missing, I can't think why they didn't bother to do it.

Yeah- that's the kind of thing I was thinking of. Then again, they did get rid of the ecology portions of the old Compendiums (which is a sad thing, IMO), so I guess it's not that surprising. Would still be nice to see something like that, though.

one of the nice things that i have to say about the MMIV format though, is that it does bring back the ecology parts in full force. :)

I've always been of the mind that they thought it was a touchy subject.

First of all, having humans as listed killable creatures in a book of monsters.

Secondly, any sort of racial breakdown could look super racist.

It's probably due to pagecount.

I mean, look at the backlash when they released classed humanoids in MM4.

There's contreversy in statblocks.
