Monster Manual II and III: Both worth getting?

I dunno what the other posters are talking about, MMIII is great IMO. I've used a bunch of monsters from it and plan to use many more (Skullcrusher Ogres, Lifeleech Otyughs, Chraal, Death Giant, Chilling Fog, Snowflake Ooze, War Troll, etc.).

Errata? Sorry, that's a pretty weak argument. The monsters work fine. If you really want to be anal about it and make sure every little comma is in place and t crossed, then there's already errata compilations that will let you do so with ease.

Don't let a few naysayers with really big chips on their shoulders ruin what is otherwise a very good book.

As for MMII, I have it as well but haven't got as much use out of it. I think that's b/c the CRs tend to be higher (at least that's my perception). But there are some cool creatures in it as well and I plan to use it again. It might be 3.0 though, I can't remember...

What would imply that I have a chip on my shoulder? It's certainly not against WOTC, as I have sung the praises of the Fiend Folio and MM2 earlier in this thread.

Regardless of my feelings on the errata (which is a big deal to some of us), I also stated that I don't find the monsters that impressive. You cited the skullcrusher ogre and war troll as examples of what you like...I find them uninspiring. Heck, the skullcrusher is simply an ogre with twice as many Hit Dice, higher ability scores, a few different feats and skills, and rock throwing. I'd prefer my monsters a bit more original.

To each his own. If you like the MM3, have fun with it. But don't assume that just because some of us find the monsters uninspiring and the errata a bit exceesive that we have "chips on our shoulders".

Point taken. I'll concede that the author may have intended the different AC, and the breakdown of its components are simply wrong. Still, I still maintain that the book is error-riddled,

I am not disputing that. In fact, I have already stated I don't really care for the book. But in my case, it's because I find in droll. Minor errors take a back seat for me when it comes to things to worry about, since I find CR a fuzzy tool at best in the first place.

I like both MM2 and MM3 (as well as the Fiend Folio) quite a lot. I think I like MM3 better- it definitely has a lot of really, really cool monsters. I used one the day I bought the book, it was so cool (and it fit right into the game, too).
