Monster Mash: Evilhalfling vs. renau1g

Let me take the brunt of this horde master Will. The fiery angel flies to the middle of the bridge (k-8)
and takes up a defensive posture, hovering inches above the wood "Lord bless my sword in the fight to come."
OOC: [sblock] weapon of the gods, full defense. [/sblock]

"You ready?" the right head asks, "Let's smash some heads" the left replies, laughing. The ettin lunges out from behind the ruined tower and rushes towards the river, it's massive legs pumping furiously as it approaches the edge. With a tremendous leap, the ettin clears the obstacle in a single bound before skidding to a stop on the other side. (I13)

The paralyth emerges from behind the trees and silently floats towards the river. The undead floats under the bridge and awaits for its masters orders. (K8, under bridge)

The succubus leaves the cover of the treeline only to take refuge behind the ruined tower, now that the ettin is gone. (T10)

[sblock=DM]
Ettin #2 - Double Move to I13 - Jumping the river
Athletics (Jump) (1d20+14=22) clears 4 squares
Minor: n/a

Paralyth:
Move - Move to N12
Standard - to K8
This should catch all enemies in its aura
Paralytic Aura aura 5; any enemy that enters the aura or starts its turn within the aura is slowed until the end of its next turn.

Succubus:
Double Move to T10 (hiding behind the tower)

Round 1, continued

The angel flies to the middle of the bridge and takes a defensive posture. His sword takes on an unearthly glow.

The ettin runs forward and takes a flying leap across the river. Halfway across, Bessie's startled bellow hits him like a thunderclap. (ooc: Bessie's readied sound pulse goes here. A close reading of the ettin's stat block makes me think that it doesn't get the +2 to defenses here, since this is another turn.)

The floating brain sails off the river bank and hovers under the bridge.

[sblock=aura?]Hmm, the DDI version of the paralyth doesn't have an aura. Is this another one of those Open Grave power swap things? Does the compendium just have (yet another) giant error? What's going on?

Also, I noticed that Bessie has blindsight. This means that the abishai's invisibility alone doesn't hide him from her; it has to make a stealth check, which I rolled: 19. Not good enough; Bessie can sense the abishai, though the others can't.

The succubus flits through the trees and hides behind the tower.

Initiatives

Paralyth 96/96, under the bridge in K8
Succubus 90/90
Will 1/1, +2 to defenses tsnt <== you're up
Ettin, head 1 222/222, +2 to defenses tsnt
Abishai 51/51, invisible tent
Angel 168/168, attacks against are at -2, +2 to defenses tsnt, melee attacks do +1d6 radiant
"Bessie" 122/122
Ettin, head 2 hp shared with head 1

I believe it's an error in the Compendium, I sent you over the page from the Open Grave book. Also, I agree with your ruling about the bonus to defense on the Ettin, makes sense.

Round 2, continued

[sblock=aura!]Okay, thanks renau1g. Stupid compendium! Bessie, Will, and Angel are slowed.[/sblock]

Will distracts the ettin, dislodging some if its vast store of accumulated toejam. (ooc: Will can't fail to aid another except on a natural 1, I think. Angel takes +2 to its next attack vs the ettin before the end of Will's next turn.)

Initiatives

Paralyth 96/96, under the bridge in K8
Succubus 90/90
Will 1/1, slowed
Ettin, head 1 207/222, +2 to defenses tsnt <== you're up
Abishai 51/51, invisible tent
Angel 168/168, attacks against are at -2, +2 to defenses tsnt, melee attacks do +1d6 radiant, +2 to next attack on ettin before will's next turn ends, slowed
"Bessie" 122/122, slowed
Ettin, head 2 hp shared with head 1

ooc: not bothering with a map update this time; it's the same except Will is in I11.

The left head of the ettin yells out "Arrggghhhh! Get that cow, it's not nice" as the giant skids to a stop. Both heads ignore the tiny human making threats down below and the ettin stomps towards the "cow".

It takes a swing with the tree it carried in the right hand, "You hurt my brudder, you now pay!" the right head growls at the "cow"

The abishai silently flies towards the group of enemies and continues to remain unseen.

[sblock=DM]
Ettin: Move - to F9
Standard: Basic Attack - Destrachan Vs. AC; Damage (1d20+15=29, 1d8+9=11) Hits AC 29 for 11 dmg, pushes target 1 square SW
Minor: n/a

Abishai: Move - to N10
Standard: Shadow Meld - shift to H4, invisible till end of next turn. Sorry.

[sblock=renau1g]Before I resolve this, I just want to check with you. The ettin hits and can push Bessie one square; what direction do you want to push her? It can be any direction so long as she gets farther from you by 4e movement rules, or you can elect not to push her.

Second, the abishai's attack is a close burst 6, not a blast. If you let it off from N10, you'll have to make attack rolls against the ettin, the paralyth, and the succubus too! Is that what you want to do? If so, tell me what direction to push the targets if you hit them.

YIkes, I misread that, I'll hold off on the Abishai for now. I'll update the above. Push = 1 square SW (trying to push it down the ravine)

Round 2, continued

The ettin ignores will lumbering past him to paste Bessie with a hefty swat. Bessie teeters on the edge of the ravine. (Will gets an OA. Ettin hits, 11 damage and Bessie is pushed SW one. Two squares of Bessie are over the edge. Per DMG p.41, she doesn't fall, but cannot stay there. On her turn she must either move onto ground that can support her, or squeeze into one of the squares she's in that are on land.)

The abishai floats invisibly across the ravine, but gets too close to Bessie on the far end. (ooc: with speed 6, the abishai can only get to H4 in a straight line, so he takes an OA when he moves out of I5.)

Initiatives

Paralyth 96/96, under the bridge in K8
Succubus 90/90
Will 1/1, slowed
Ettin, head 1 207/222
Abishai 51/51, invisible tent
Angel 168/168, attacks against are at -2, melee attacks do +1d6 radiant, +2 to next attack on ettin before will's next turn ends, slowed <== you're up
"Bessie" 111/122, slowed, must move or squeeze away from the edge
Ettin, head 2 hp shared with head 1
