I had a brief chat with a playtester and he said that the removal of the Beast type was a good thing, as most historical beasts (dinosaurs, etc.) have become animals now, with increased HD and such, and nonhistorical beasts have become magical beasts.
Lycanthropes fall under Humanoid (Shapechanger), if the original character was a Humanoid... a hill giant werewolf would be a Giant (Shapechanger).
