Monster's Natural Attack and Enchantment Bonuses

I think I remember seeing somewhere a section that talked about some monster's natural attacks being able to penetrate damage reduction. I think it was based on creature type and Hit Dice.

Example: An old dragon's claws are considered magical for purposes of bypassing DR.

Assuming I'm not crazy, what book is this in? Page number?

Thanks!

IIRC, Creatures that have DR can penetrate, with their natural attacks, the same DR, ie, a monster that has 5/+2 will be able to attack and damage creatures with DR X/+1 or X/+2 with no additional problem.

I don't have a page reference handy (don't have the books with me) but I recall it as Maitre Du Donjon just said...

a creature with DR can bypass DR of equal strength. So a creature that needs silver to bypass its own DR has its own natural weapon treated as silver for the purpose of bypassing other creatures' DR.

As previous posters point out, a monster with DR can bypass the same level of DR with their natural attacks -- see DMG p. 74).

In previous versions of the game (AD&D 1st & 2nd Edition) there were also allowances for creatures with high Hit Dice to bypass magic-weapons-to-hit requirements.
