Monsters that lay eggs inside you; rules

I was looking through the MM and noticed the Slaad have the ability to lay eggs in their victims that hatch a number of days later. It doesn't say anything more than the "baby" bursts forth x number of days later after and that it consumes a victim from the inside. If a player was to fall victim of this attack and for what ever reason not get cured of this "aliment" what wouild happen to them? Also if a pc was drinking healing potions to heal damage that their "baby" was dealing them then until it was born then they would actually remain in ok condition. Any one deal with this? Any ideas?

I can't say for sure since I don't have the 3.5 MM (I use the SRDs mostly), but if it says the character dies, then they die. I'd consider it a death effect.

Death effects can be counteracted with death ward and prevent raise dead. I would consider it an invading organism leaves your body and wrecks some vital organs on the way out effect.

Or more simply...the Chestburster Effect of Aliens fame.

Hi!

Here is a "hint" from the Prestige Class Slaad Brooder from the Savage Species, p. 86:

Savage Species said:
The egg gestates for one week before hatching into a slaad that eats his way out, killing the host.

Kind regards

I don't say this often but, I agree completely with frankthedm. The slaad baby kills its host when it exits the body, and it's no particular kind of effect other than a "rips you apart" effect.

You get several days before this happens. Use them. ;)
