For one thing, there is a long tradition of disguising booby-traps to look like toys. A rather favorite tactic of the Soviets in Afghanistan. There is also a long tradition of using suspicious devices -- often in pairs -- to lure bomb disposal, emergency medical personnel, and police into range. There were several clinic bombings where secondary explosives were set to go off based on the expected response time of police and fire personnel.

If you're the one who's got to go mess with the thing, you best your ass your going to take it seriously. Only get to be wrong once.

And the two retards that did it ought to be sterilized before they're locked up. I'm rather incredulous that in this day and age anyone would agree to take a random electronic package and attach it to a public building or bridge.

It was a dumb viral campaign but 30 seconds on the one channel the Superbowl is on costs $2.4 million and Turner is expected to be charged $1 million for this uproar after days of national news coverage . Just another thing to make you hmmm.
I hear what you are saying, but I don't think a superbowl spot would come anywhere near ATHF's demographic. They have a largely cult following and I'd say a small percentage will be watching the game on Sunday.

They already did one episode about the superbowl...see below.

The Boston police have a proud tradition of believing that anything with wires is a bomb. They are gutless, contemptible, and demonstrative of everything that is wrong with the system.
Gosh, that's easy for you to say. Do you know any? 'Cause I do. And I maintain that this sort of biased generality is just as specious as a racial or national slur. I suspect that Boston Police are quite like the Edmonton Police or Police in any modern city -- generally brave, highly protective of the communities they care for, and thoroughly human.

It's interesting that in the six years I've run this site, this is the first time I've been tempted to violate the politics ban.

So let's all avoid it, eh? And in doing so, not make blanket condemnations.

QFT!

You're right. It is irresponsible, insensitive, rude, and wrong to say that every cop on the force is like that, and I apologize. Rather than devolve this into politics, I'm mailing you offline with my response.

Thank you. No harm done, and I look forward to chatting with you about it off-site.

The question I'm now asking myself is: would I have reacted the same way if someone here had said this about another city's police force? Heh - a little introspection of one's motives never hurts.

Back to the discussion. :)

Sure,

They could have been a bomb but....

Every day we pass, literally, HUNDRED of THOUSANDS of Objects that Could be used to hide an explosive device.

Talk to some Vietnam & Iraq Veterans about where all a Trap, Explosive, or even Suicide Bomber could be located.

As a matter of fact, I think they copied their Ad Idea from an Old Batman Episode.

The Lite-Brite was more of a Comic Book, Villian sort of "Blow things up".

By and large, people who really want to kill & destroy want to do so in such a way as the bomb appears innocuous.

This was very much a "Much Ado About Nothing"

In fact, I'd say the biggest threat here was a Copy-Cat that really does put a bomb out there.

This was a case of a poorly thought ad idea.

On the other hand, the got "Adult Swim" mentioned so many times on CNN that they have had to put out millions of dollars to buy that ad space.

As the "Hoax" Charge relies on intent, I don't think anyone is going to jail over this.

They'll probablly plead guilty to some lesser charge (Vandalism) & get some Community Service and a Fine.

Turner & Boston will come to a financial arangement.

Will be a footnote in 1 weeks.

And of course since Boston is just as dangerous as Afghanistan your point...

Wait, what was your point again?

The DEVICES did not cause the panic.

This is witnessed by the fact that in 9 cities nothing happened. There was one call in Boston. All the rest of this mess was caused by the official overreaction.

The appropriate response to these devices was what was done in Seattle. Look at them. Recognize they're not dangerous. Take them down.

Wires and circuit boards do not equal a bomb. Anyone with a double digit IQ knows that because otherwise, the bomb squad would be blowing things up all day.
