More D&D Miniature Pictures

Well, I have to say I'm impressed.

When I first heard that Wizards decided to go 'gooey vinyl' on the figures, I thought that would be the end of my miniature purchases from them.

But somehow.. Astoundingly, they actually found a way to get detail to appear on these bendy little bits of army-man plastic. That troll is, from what I can tell, stunningly detailed, even just to look at the shoulder muscles represented in the blurry picture

Hopefully, they will find a sculptor who can carve a decent Minotaur, and animal-hybrid style monsters. I'm always baffled at the whole MASSIVE upper body and head, and iiiiiiiiiiiiiittttybitty little legs. Unless every creature literally moved about on all fours, this type of body structure is completely useless, as upright beings need powerful 'lower' legs for propulsion. I did, however, like the face on that thing.

The paint jobs are what I expected. Rather gloopy, and utterly terrible from an artistic standpoint. That Centaur (I'm assuming that's what it is, though what is with that white streak up it's torso is beyond me) looks like a joke painted like that. If I can find a good forum for paint stripping vinyls, I'll be doing that, assuming I feel like spending a few million dollars on trying to *get* a Centaur, as it seems they are making creature TYPES randomized, which really sticks in my craw.

Lord I wish I lived in a city that had a decent place for a 'second market' oppertunity to buy. The pirate (quite literally) who runs the game store here tends to overcharge 40 to 60% on things, and I guarantee the moment he gets whiff of 'rare' on a collectable miniature line, he'd happily charge me $8 for a plasticy Mind flayer :P

But so far, I'm leaning into the more impressed than unimpressed gallery. The quality looks more than servicable, save a few artistic mistakes, and there just might be a chance of getting 'themed' boxes in the future.

Lets hope.

Well Foundry I would direct you to the Marketplace forum here on ENWorld - when these hit the stores I expect that will be a great source of trade and buying on the cheap. eBay can be a good deal but you have to watch the S&H and try to find sellers located in your home country.

Rarity was discussed... and I thought announced. At least generally.

Each box of 8 will contain one large figure and 7 medium/small figures.

The large will be rare, while 3 of the others will be uncommon and the other 4 will be common. Exactly how rare is rare (and how uncommon is uncommon): I didn't hear about any specific ratios (that is, we know that there is 1 rare figure for every 3 uncommon figures, and 1 uncommon for every 1.33 common figures, but we don't know, for example, how many owlbears there will be per mind flayer since we don't know how often each rarity level will repeat the same figure).

Other good news I've not seen mentioned here yet: all paint jobs will be effectively identical (no rare or unusual minotaurs, for example -- they all look the same), and WotC will be releasing sets before too long (buy a box of orcs, for example). In addition, in a couple of years you will be able to buy a complete set of the Harbinger line in one box if you're into collecting (or just want at least one of everything without resorting to the secondary market and without buying a jillion boxes).

None of these miniatures will need to be glued, right? I can't imagine assembly would be required for pre-painted figs. I hope these will be ready for play immediately out of the box.

All indications are that these are ready to go right out of the box - no assembly required. I would have to assume that they would want to avoid any kind of assembly required stuff just because Mage Knight and Heroclix don't go that route (and from what I understand the D&D figure line is being made by the same company that produces the Mage Knight minis for Wizkids)
